finished chemo - yippee !

Well I had my last chemo on Tuesday and now have just the side effects to get through.  It's a great feeling to have finished it - back in January I couldn't imagine this day arriving. 

Have planning date for rads - 16 May and then treatment starts on 24th (18 rads).  Not looking forward to the daily travelling to rads - but it will be nice not to have anyone sticking needles in me for a few weeks.

I've got a tiny bit of bristly hair just starting to come through on top of my head although the sides and back are still bare.  Hope it comes back quickly but I've also got to start Herceptin and Tamoxifen soon and I understand that both of those can slow down hair growth.

Thank you all for your encouragement and advice on my way through this journey - you are all helping me so much.

What wonderful news to have this part of your treatment behind you. I wish you luck during rads (they are a breeze) Congrats on the hair too!

I'm so glad you've come to the other side of that.  It's such a hard journey.  Please be good to yourself.  I took time off from work for rads, but not chemo.  It really helped me to do that.  You're a very strong lady.  Keep on keeping on!

Oh, Anthi, I am so happy for you!  I know it seems like a big chunk out of your life right now, but in the days ahead, you will see that it was worth it.  Hope rads go by quickly, and you're back to your old self in no time!

Dear Anthi... Hubby is doing very well. He looks better than he has in a long time, as a matter of fact. I've slipped another disc, this one in my cervical spine, so I was out of commission for a couple of weeks. Starting to feel human again, and going through physical therapy again! This is my sixth disc to go, the first to go in my cervical spine. The bright side is, there are only so many discs, so as long as I can keep plowing through, that's just what I'm gonna do!

Also got a cortisone injection in the right shoulder, so that pain has dissipated greatly.

You know you're getting old when all you can talk about is your aches and pains, though!

I'm so excited for you that you have finished the chemo! I didn't have rads, because I had the mastectomy, so I can't be much help there, but from what others tell me, just be prepared for fatigue. When you go for your planning, ask what they will do for rad burns, should you get them, and get a script for it before you begin. That way you have it on hand in case you need it. No sense being in pain for a weekend (and of course, it would happen on a weekend, you know!) when you don't need to.
