mammo after tram

I have my first mammo after the tram and lift scheduled for Monday.  Any of you who have had a tram, did they do your mammo the same?  My doctor had to get special auth from the insurance so I can have it done at the hospital, not the medical office where they usually do it.  I'm not looking forward to it.  Is it more painful or less?  Curious as to anyone's experience.  Thanks.

I did not have a tram, but I did have tissue-expansion and a lift on the normal breast. For me, they do not mammo the restructured breast area just the normal breast that had the lift. It is not any different for me, but then I was healed from the lift. Please let us know how it goes and what they do. I am curious to know.

Hello All,

I don't come here often, but in reading through I saw this question about having a tram.  I have had one for the past 6 years on my reconstructed breast. It is done the same as the other side and feels about the same.  My insurance pays just like it does for the other side.

I plan to keep getting it done as I feel more confident doing it as to not doing it.  For those that may remember be, my 7 yr anniv since mast is coming up June 14.  I have other health issues but not this one.  Thank and Praise God.

Kathy, they only did my tram side once, and that was eons ago. However, it was amusing. The tech was so afraid she was going to hurt me, and I have absolutely no sensation in the reconstruction at all, so the risk of hurting me was like 00000. I know many of the women here have tramograms, but my onc is not inclined to do them. My surgeon and plastic surgeon were not pro-tramograms either, so I never pushed for it. The one time it was done, it wasn't ordered, so I didn't get charged for it. The tech was just "overly diligent."

Anyway, the one time they did it, it was absolutely painless.

Wow, a new word. What is a tramogram and how does it differ from a mammogram? I just had my tram done in February so am interested in Kathy's question too. Congrats to TruBlu on your 7 yr anniversary! And good luck with your other health issues.

Tramogram.  LOL  I love it.  Kim, I think it's just a play on words.

 

Mine was painless, too.  I was more worried about the lifted side hurting more than usual, as it was done just 6 months after the surgery.  But, I lived to tell, so it's not much of a concern.

Actually, that is what they call a mammogram that is performed on a reconstructive TRAM. I would love to take credit for coining it, but I can't.
