Does Inflammatory Breast Cancer Hurt?

Hi, I'm usually over in the lupus form, but something's going on with my left breast. I have a red swollen mark twice the size of a silver dollar, and it's sore to the touch, but no lumps. My PCP said it's a tick bite and started me on a regimen a doxycycline.

I had my annual mammogram today and it was clean. However the radiologist asked to see me and suggested the possibility of inflammatory breast cancer and asked me to watch it and come back in in ten days for an ultrasound. I presume the wait is to see if the antibiotic does it's job.

But my poor boobie is so sore, inside and out. I'm here to look for someone who'll tell me that IBC doesn't hurt.

Hi Pat, I can't answer your question but there are some on here who can. I am sure they will see your post soon and respond. I just want to say welcome and I hope the antibiotic does the trick! Is the red area a "bulls-eye" looking area? Lighter in the center? I have a friend that said that is what lymes disease looks like, she has it.
Is the skin at all like the peel on an orange? Kind of bumpy like an orange? I understand that is what inflammatory bc looks like. I don't remember if it hurts though. Is it warm to touch?

Gail, you are so sweet to respond to me. As the day has progressed, so has the pain, and now I have what look like tiny blisters on two sides of my breast. I think I have shingles. I'm not a doctor, and two doctors have looked at my breast, but the tiny bumps didn't look like this yesterday or last friday. Shingles are horrible, but they are a far better option than IBS! Cross your fingers.

I had shingles on my head about 6 mo ago, NOT fun! But yes, FAR better than IBS! Weird when you think you are hoping for shingles, lol! Please keep us posted.

Yes, I did have pain with my IBC - started in the lymph nodes and was my first sympton. My GP sent me for many ultrasounds, but it was the change in my breast (redness, swelling and inverting nipple) as well as pain - some times the pain was very sharp/stabbing - that put me on a hurry up diagnosis track.

It was unfortunately, but it was IBC. I'm now 11 months since diagnosis and doing well.

All I can say is, don't panic/worry until you know for sure. My GP told me about so many different things it could be, IBC was just one of them.

Gayle, Gail, and MK, I'm one of the lucky ones. It turned out to be shingles. Who'd of thought someone would be happy to get shingles? Well, it surely was better than IBC, and better than Lymes Disease too. I hope those of you with IBS are getting good treatment, and I'll sure be thinking of you. Thanks for your help with my self-diagnosis. And I thought only the folks on the lupus forum are great, and then here are you guys, just as wonderful. Come on over if you get any aches or pains. tongue

whenever your breast expand like that your breast is going to hurt. just like when you are nursing

Dear Ladies my first time on any forum. Was diagnosised with IBC 4 years ago Nov6,'07. Am 47now and doing great. Was told only had 12-18months then. Have proved everyone wrong. Have friend is 12 1/2 years out. I used new chemo called Epurubacin. Don't let anyone talk you into giving up. Get frustrated that everytime I cough more tests. Just had $100,000 worth of tests this summer. Wasn't cancer but told liver failure. Case sent to Harvard drs back east and waiting for diagnosis/treatment plan. I'm not beat yet and plan on enjoying my 9 month old grandson not only now but forever. Live in super small town but 5 cases of IBC here. I'm only one alive and only one that had new chemo. Do your research. MY oncologist taught my husband and I how to research. If your dr doesn't want to discuss what you know GET A NEW DR! research everything you're told.

Hi next step and welcome. You sound great! That is encouraging to newbies who may have questions about IBC. We have a member here who had IBC and is doing fine, too. She doesn't post real often but I always hope when I see IBC that she will see the post and respond. Keep doing well! Hugs MK

I hope and pray that you do not have IBC. My 33 year old daughter has it and hers is very painful. It has spread to her bones and even some spots in her liver. They have her on 600mg's of morphine a day, plus break thru morphine every 4 hours. So once again I pray that you do not have IBC and if you do that they have caught it in time, and it has not spread.
