Sad news...

Tramflapgirl (Chris) passed away last month.  The "old" ones on the board will remember her.  She was only 40 and leaves three girls, the youngest is 4.  She was the first person I met here in Cincinnati  who also had breast cancer.  There were four of us who would get together and have dinner every few months. I miss having those dinners as they kept me going and in touch with everyone.  And I miss my dinner partners too.

I know that once she got to heaven she was met with open arms and long hugs from our friends who have already lost their battle with this disease.

OMG, this is terrible terrible news. I thought of her every single day since her mets diagnosis and shook my head in disbelief when she told us.... I remember her so well, Myrtle Beach, St. Louis and one time she came into town to see her favorite singer, and had dinner with Cathi, Mikki and me. She was such a gem. She had such aggressive chemo for her diagnosis, that of all people, she should never have had a recurrance.

I was so sad when the village group busted up, I never understood it, but missed the beautiful friendships and rapport that we all shared. Remember those days! I miss those old chats too, compass anyone? I checked in at the village now and then to lurk and see any updates on Chris, I knew the cancer had spread to her brain.

Once again, this DAMM disease has left me speachless with the wind knocked out of me.

Sometimes there really are no words to express what you feel when anyone becomes one of our BC Angels. This disease is mean, and when it strikes and takes a young mother, I can hardly contain my anger. I received one of the nicest e-mails from Chris when another of our young mothers became an angel. Chris knew the rage I was feeling over the loss of Shell and wrote such a special note that I had it until my computer crashed. All I could think of was how nice, but truely difficult it must have been for her, to write me a note when she was facing the same future as a young mother. For those of you that did not know her, this should tell you something about the type of person she was. My sympathy to her family, Peg, and other friends. Joyce

Annette, thanks for letting us know about Chris. I am so angry. It upsets me when we lose anyone to this disease but to a mother with 3 young children...that is horrible. Although I havent talked to Chris in 2 yrs or so, I did think about her often...There are some great memories....the day she announce that she was pregnant with Ellen..we were all at Myrtle Beach for one of our reunions. also the trip to Michigan that Lori mentioned was fun.

I hope that Peg is doing alright. I know that they were so close...talking and visiting each other....I am sure it has been so hard for her.

My thoughts are with her family and especially her 3 girls...how she loved them.

I was stunned when I saw this post although I knew it would be coming one of these days. Like Cathi, I have not heard from Chris for a couple of years. A small acorn grew into a tree of misunderstandings and hurt. It was too bad that it happened and I still blame the village for not helping us when we needed help, but they were commercially interested and did not open their eyes to the hurts our ladies were enduring. Ah well, that is passed. I, too, have good memories of Chris and many of the others who are no longer with us. I wish we never had to meet under these circumstances of breast cancer. I wish they never had the pain, physical or mental knowing their time was limited on this earth. Many, many tears have fallen and many prayers have been said and will continue to be said for those who have lost their mothers, friends, life partners, daughters. I am so very sad for all who loved Chris and all the others. Mary K.

Oh, what sad news. I have not been here in a long time and just thought I would drop in this evening. So sad about Chris. She and I shared a room at that interesting motel in St. Louis and then I met her at the airport in Myrtle Beach when Ellen was just a baby. What great times we had and how we laughed together. I sent her messages and a card at Christmas time, but did not hear from her. Guess the hurt and misunderstandings were just too great. What a loss. Sad hugs, Lauri

I read this news 2 days ago and can't stop thinking about Chris.  So sad and so unfair to her girls.

Obviously there has never been a "reconciliation" between this board and IV.  It was awfully nice there until all of that miserable business happened.  However, Healing Well has been good for all of us, even though our original group has been much reduced.

Trying to get on with my life here, but BC and all its wretched effects are with me constantly.  I think of you all often, but for some reason the posting is very difficult.  Maybe I feel as so many others do.  In 1998 when I was first dx'd I thought that by now there would be a cure.  Well, on July 14 it was 9 yrs for me and there are still mighty few answers.

Ladies, I feel sucker punched since losing Chris too. Even though in some ways we here at HW lost her a few years ago, I never stopped thinking of her and wondering how she got the recurrance that she should have never gotten...Statistically speaking is one thing, but we all know how those statistics really work. We are not numbers, we are us, we are individuals.

And I still have the picture from SL on my desk and hate to count the numbers we have lost an each time another one loses her battle, we are painfully reminded of the disease and mortality.

BUT...in the 8 years since my diagnosis....I have seen progress! The use of hormones for long term relief is no longer the norm. Herceptin is now used as first line tx (when i did chemo it was for stage IV only, and years before it was based on a lottery). Aromatase inhibitors have replaced Tamoxifen for post menopausal women, MRI is now widely accepted.....all major medical advances just to name a few. No cure yet, but progress. And the numbers show that survival rates are increasing.

We must not stop fighting the disease...we need to keep racing for that cure and not let misunderstandings get in the way of relationships and love.

Hello..I'm new here. No I dont have IBC but my sister-in-law did.She went through every experimental treatment there was known. She was dia. in Dec of 2002 the week of Christmas and they gave her 7-9 months ..Well, she beat those odds..
On 7-29-2007 at 11:08 pm the angels came to take her home.. She too wears Pink Wings .I dont know anything about the diease except it is very painful .. Our Connie was a fighter ...It finally got the best of her she fought for almost 5 yrs.
My hugs go to each and everyone of you who are having to deal with this ungratful monster that is in your body and I prayer with all my heart that you all survive so you may live a life without the pain and you have happiness.
