Two weeks after lumpectomy, still very sore is this normal

I had a left breast masectomy, so I can't tell you about the length of pain you may have. BUT....under my arm I had alot of pain, and I am of Greek decent so I do have to use an anti persp.,(PEWWWWW) and since the doctors advised me not use use any kind of roll ons or spray, I took a very soft cloth and sprinkled a tiny bit of baby powder and placed it under my arm took a pain pill and the pain subsided. I took it out, & I continue to do it a few times a day... and it does help with the chafing sensation.

I do hope you feel better soon, and if not,....................... get better pain meds...don't be relucacnt to call the doctors.


take care and KNOW that HERE you are in a good place. It's where you need to be. I am about 6 weeks post op ( sept. 14, 2007) then expander on 10-9-2007. And I sincerely with all my heart do not know what I would do without the people here, those who understand ....who know.......and above all REALLY DO CARE! They have been where we are and understand when, even I don't understand my feelings........ so how can I expect my friends and family know. So my new friends here...... are now a part of my life and family.

The pain from the lymph node removal is worse than pain from the mastectomy in my estimation. The underarm is very sensitive and will stay that way for a long while. You need to be careful in using the arm in the correct way, because you could cause swelling known as lymphedema. But you do need to exercise and keep the arm limber. Has no one talked to you about lymphedema and how to exercise? If not contact the American Cancer Society in your area. They have women who will visit you and show you what to do unless you live in a very rural area. Your doctor should have already discussed this with you. One of the exercises is to simply squeeze a small ball in your hand, kind of like a stress remover, which would not hurt you either. Another is to walk your fingers up a wall and each day try to go a little higher, but do this slowly not all at one time. You know I bet you could find the exercises explained on the internet by Googling. Take care, try not to stress out. Who is with you most? Are they calm and helpful or are they stressed and worried? Cancer is not the scary word it used to be, it is more and more treatable all the time. Hugs MK
