Is there anyone that had DCIS and lumpectomy with no more cancer-negative margins that did not take radiation and/or Tamoxifen? I am trying to make up my mind about radiation & T. Lymph nodes were not checked. Had surgery because of calcifications, lumpectomy to take more tissue around biopsied area - no cancer found. Any suggestions/experience?

Good grief, I found this post way at the bottom without an answer. How did that happen? If you haven't given up on us Humming the answer is probably yes, but more than likely most had the radiation. I went as far as to have a mastectomy when probably the lumpectomy would have been sufficient with radiation. I am over 11 years now since the mastectomy and have had no further problems. I really think it is best to follow your doctor's advice and do as much as you can to prevent further cancer. How old are you, that could also make a difference as to how you are treated? Thanks for the reply! I have appt with radiologist Nov 13 that will help me decide. I am 62 (63 in Feb) have no other health problems at all. I really appreciate any input. This is all so new to me and scary. I am very positive about everything, but still want to do what is best for me.

At 62 you should be ok with less treatment than a younger woman whose hormones are still very active, radiation is not supposed to be too awful. Since I had the mastectomy I had no radiation or chemo. I was 58 when diagnosed and just turned 69. I am the old lady around here. LOL. Let us know after your appointment what you decide to do.
