Need help to understand about daughter's test.

A month ago Carolyn's blood work showed anemia.  I am not sure what was done at that time, but she was to have another blood test this month when she went for her Aredia infusion.  It showed her red cells count was even lower, so they are going to do a bone marrow test next week.  What are they looking for?  Does anyone know?  She says one of her medicines is supposed to cause problems with blood count, but the meds seem to be working as far as the bone scan shows etc. They gave her a shot of something that sounds like angen aran esp which meanss nothing to me.

Chris, other daughter,  was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, overactive thyroid last month.  Erica grand daughter, has a large cyst on her ovary and is almost six months pregnant.  Stella's husband had his pet scan and it showed suspicion of cancer in the upper lobe.  He will have a biopsy and probably surgery to remove the lobe?  My guess as to removing the lobe.  It is an area about two inches in diameter that has two spots and a possible lymph node that is swollen. 

On the other hand, my mother continues to have great health except she is getting more feeble and her memory is failing more all the time. I'm here lazy as I can be.  But we are going to TN this next weekend to see my son's family, our grandson will be there with his wife and little ones.  Second grandson, Ben is newly engaged so we get to meet Amy.  Dr. Becky and Jenny, son's daughters will be there.  Chris and her family will be there, too.  We are staying in two of the cabins there will be so many of us.  Maybe that will get me going!!!

Thanks for your input Jen, I know about general anemia. My husband was diagnosed with celiac disease last February which was found by anemia and then an upper GI scope with biopsy. I suggested Carolyn tell her onc about the celiac because it is genetic, but she didn't because she understood one of the meds she takes is a problem for blood cells and besides she said, "If I had celiac disease I would have had it all my life not just now." I reminded her that her father was just diagnosed and it was because he became very anemic last year all of a sudden. I just wasn't sure what they were looking for with the bone marrow test. I know leukemia is related to bone marrow. I know there are blood cancers that could be related, but does mets ever show up in bone marrow? We will probably know more in a week or two. Her test is next Tuesday. Hugs, MK

Yes we know the bone scan shows spots, but as Carolyn keeps telling me, it could be arthritis. All the bone scan shows are hot spots. So you see she does tend to try to make me not worry. Remember, too, she works way too hard and says that Lance Armstrong beat cancer by working. I just don't remember others here with bone mets having bone marrow tests. Cathi, are you reading? Have you had bone marrow tests?

HI MK..FIRST OFF, NO I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY BONE MARROW TESTS. NOT SURE WHY THEY ARE DOING THAT.... BUT THEY MUST HAVE A REASON.

I AGREE THAT WORKING IS GOOD FOR YOU WHILE GOING THRU TREATMENT. I ONLY WENT ON DISABILITY
LAST YEAR & I SURE WISH I WAS STILL ABLE TO WORK. I JUST HOPE THAT CAROLYN ISNT OVERDOING IT.
SHE NEEDS TO GET ENOUGH REST. BY THE WAY DID SHE TELL YOU WHAT MED IS SUPPOSE TO AFFECT THE RED BLOOD COUNT ?

THE BONE SCANS HAVE BEEN VERY INCONCLUSIVE WHEN IT COMES TO ME. I HAD ONE AND 2 WEEKS LATER

I HAD A COMPOUND FRACTURE OF THE HUMEROUS. THE REASON IT BROKE WAS BECAUSE OF A TUMOR THAT DIDNT SHOW UP ON THE SCAN. TUMOR MARKERS ARE MORE HELPFUL FOR ME...NOT EVERYONE, BUT THEY DO HELP ME. MINE ARE VERY HIGH RIGHT NOW. I HAVE HAD LOTS OF DIFFERENT TESTS , BUT NOT BONE MARROW.I SURE WISH I COULD BE MORE HELP. PLEASE KEEP US POSTED ON WHAT IS GOING ON WITH CAROLYN.
