 hi,

 I am new here and to everything i have not been DXed with this yet

but i am scared out of my mind. I am 41 and Just had my very 1st

mammogram and that was friday on the 31.today is tuesday the 5th

and i recieved a letter in the mail saying  this:

  Dear patient:

        Your recent Mammography examination showed a finding that requires

additional imaging studies for a complete evalution.Most findings are benign(not cancer)

Please call to shedule an appointment for these tests if you have not already done so.

  I am scared this is my very 1st mammogram ever...can someone help me please!

 I have very bad anxiety/panic attacks and i am going crazy. I am going in tomorrow.

Hi there, I'm Judy, and I saw your panicked post. First of all, the letter is correct, most anomalies are benign, so first please calm down, and tomorrow please call your doctor and make arrangements for the re-check. Now is the time for you to learn how to take good notes about all medical tests, whether a mammogram or others, that you will have now and in the future.  When you go for the re-check, ask what type of re-check it is and ask for all copies of your reports -- original mammo and re-check test. 

Truthfully, this can be nothing, so please do not worry about it now. Try to get the recheck ASAP to alleviate your anxiety, and good luck, let us hear from you.

  thank you so much for a reply i have been waiting here since i posted i do have a recheck it is for tomorrow at 1:00 mean while the tech said if it was something really bad they would of called right away. She said because this is my first mammogram ever they probably just want something to compare too(never had a baseline) After hear of this? Thank you for you kindness and caring as for calming down that is sooo hard for me always has been if this is the big C i know i won't be able to handle it...thanks..tina

Hi Tina, I see you answered my post on update of surgical biopsy so you see how far something can go and it still turns out to be nothing. When I had my first mammogram at your age (I'm 55)  a very small spot showed up, one to small to even biopsy. I was called back for more views and told to go back in 6 mos. Fourteen years later that spot is still there.  It's good to know your radiologist is on the ball and picked up something that might have gone unnoticed by another. With the new digital mammograms they pick up everything and that's a good thing. Please try to calm down and remember most things turn out to benign or disappear. I found out today that's very common.  Also, my DIL does mammograms and 20 might be done in one day with 3/4's turning out to be call backs. Out of all those 1 or 2 might  be problem. It all depends on whose reading your slides. She works with one radiologist whose so unsure of himself he calls back just about everyone so another radiologist can take a look. Please let us know how it turns out for you.
