Hi and welcome! Sorry you have to be here, but we've got some veterans here who can get you through. First, be advised that you will be facing a whirlwind of tests, information, decisions, new words, and new emotions. Take your time and do not rush into things, take the time you need to find the right doctors, to research and make informed choices. Make lists of questions when you go to the doc and take someone with you, consider a tape recorder too to record what the doc says.
As for negative ER/PR being more likely to come back, keep in mind that everything in cancerland tries to fit into a statistic, but we are all people and not statistics. There may be a higher recurrence rate with ER/PR negative, but you are you, and there is no way to predict what your cancer will do. We know women who were very early stage that went onto stage IV and others with very serious and more advanced conditions who have outlived every predixction and remain cancer free.
I was diagnosed at 30 in 1999 and have been cancer free ever since. No reason to think you can't be in that category too! Feel free to ask us whatever...none of us can tell you if you should or should not have a mastectomy...the doctors may offer a recommendation based on your individual situation, but ultimately you will have to decide. So take your time, let it soak in, and try not to read too much at a time.
Hang in there!
