Hi everyone and Happy Holidays :)

I was diagnosed with stage 3 IDC in December 05 and went through chemo (AC/T), bilateral mastectomies, and radiation. Because it was ER positive and had positive lymph nodes, I was put on Tamoxifen until October of this year when two "hot spots" showed up on multiple scans.

My oncologist believes these to be bone mets, but they are not in places that can be biopsied right now. I am on Femara and Zometa.

My first question is....does anyone else have pain and muscle spasms after their first Zometa treatment? I was told the side effects would stop, but they haven't.

Second question......my potassium level keeps bottoming out when they do labs? I take multivitamins and extra potassium every day as it is.....does anyone else have this or know what it could be?

Hi! I am not personally experienced in the bone mets except my daughter was dx with it eight years after her original diagnosis. I think she was on Zometa but had no ill effects otherthan being very tired. It didn't work for her and she has been on a couple of other chemos, finally she is on Abraxane weekly with Avastin once a month. These drugs are working miracles for her. I tell you this so you will talk to the oncologist and if one chemo is causing miserable side effects others can be tried.

As to the Potassium, are you buiying it over the counter? Do you watch the dosaage in the bottles? I was taking one 500 mg per day and had to increase to two a day because I had terrible cramps mostly in my legs and thighs. Maybe you just need to take more and eat more bananas and drink orange juice as well as other foods high in potassium.

Talk to your doctor about you blood levels and see how concerned he/she is about them.

My oncologist called a little bit ago and asked me to come in 12/31....which is three months earlier than expected, so I guess we will find out something then.....in the meantime, we shall all have the best Christmas ever, right??? LOL

Yes, in the meantime have a wonderful Christmas. And be sure to come back and let us know what you find out. Maybe by then some of the others will find time to help with questions.
