My dear friends,

These past few months have been very difficult. I spent several weeks in the hospital for numerous problems. The day I was to be released I stood up and my leg gave out. As it turned out I had a pathological break of the femur. The tumor that was there was huge, plus some other tumors. The pain was horrible !!! I had surgery to repair the femur .They used a plate and screws etc. The incision is 18 inches long. I then spent 2 weeks in rehab.

I am now in hospice. It is wonderful here. My prognosis isnt good. The hospice house is very close to where my daughters live (15 min drive) so one of them visits daily.My window looks out onto the lake...... It is beautiful and very peaceful........

I will post with updates, but when I cant, joyce (lemoncreamlady....Lemonz) will......

  Word are failing me now so please know that you have a special place in my heart as you were one of the first I met that great day in May so many many years ago.  May God bless you and guide you on your final journey.   I love you Cathi.

Oh Cathy I have been thinking of you so often and wondering how you are doing. You have been through so much and have been quite a soldier in the battle against breast cancer. I wonder if Avastin might have worked for you if they had had it in time. It has been a miracle chemo for Carolyn! I wish you could have had a chance at it. Remember Donna from here in TX when she was in hospice for her bone mets? She had a beautiful room with a lovely patio and garden view. It was peaceful and quiet so that is how I picture your room. You know we all love you and want you to be comfortable and have peace. God be with you, MK

I too have been thinking of you everyday, praying for a miracle. I have no words of wisdom, just a hurting heart. You have been such an inspiration for all of us here. I feel so bless to have met you along with all the other wonderful ladies. It's a tie that will always bind. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Sending lots of love and gentle hugs!

Once upon a time, we lived in a land where our bodies had not been touched by cancer.  Then one day, we heard that awful word “malignant.”  We underwent treatment – surgery, chemo, and radiation as ordered by our oncs.  We adjusted to a new “normal” made all the more bearable because we met a wonderful bunch of ladies who knew exactly what it was like to go through what we were because they were going through it, too. 

 

Some of us overcame our fear of posting personal info online to meet new breast friends on a board where logins became cherished friends.  We met in chat where we laughed and cried and consoled each other and shared our life experiences.  Then, wonder of wonders, we met in person!  Oh, who can describe the feeling of those in-person hugs and laughs and tears?! 

 

Miss Cathleen, you are a dear lady.  I love to read your posts, the feel of your hugs, the sound of your voice, and I admire the way you have fought this battle.  I am thankful you have this wonderful place to stay where you are being cared for and can visit us online when you’re up to it.  Please know that you are loved. 

 

My prayers are continuing for you.

Oh dear Cathi, I remember meeting you in St. Louis (gosh, that hotel was terrible, huh? Gave us great stories though!)...you had your little stubbly bald head after chemo. We rode the car to the top of the arch together, and we bonded. I rode that car back to the top of the arch last summer (for a Bruce show, of course) and realized I was too claustrophobic for such space) and remembered our time.
I miss you and think of you every day, you are heroic to us all. Your battle has been so brave and so challenging, I am so pleased to hear you are at peace and feeling the tranquility of the moment. I love you and miss you and will keep the cards coming. :)

Oh, Cathi...I'm so srry that this has been so difficult for you. If there were only justice in this process, but we all know that it can be about as predictable as as shooting craps. Do you remember our waitress at our last breakfast here in Cincinnati? Her daughter had had ovarian cancer at the age of 11. Talk about a bad roll... Anyway, you are often on my mind, and every time I come to this site it is with the hope that there will be a post from you! The hospice sounds like a really nice place, and so glad that your daughter gets to visit every day. I hope they're giving you lots of good pain meds there! LOL Take care. And know that you, my dear, are most admired and most loved.

Big hug from me.  You are in my thoughts and prayers, and I'm glad that you are near your girls.  All this sucks big time, but we got to meet one another and share a part of our lives and have some good times in the process.

Dearest Cathi, I have been thinking about you a lot lately. Everytime I see the previews about the movie "Mama Mia" I picture you, Luci and I rockin' to the music! You are the first breast friend I met in San Antonio. You are a sweetheart.

I pray that you remain comfortable. I am glad your daughters are near.

I love you Cathi, and I know I will see you again dear friend.

I am sending my strongest hugs to you (((((((((((((((((CATHI)))))))))))))))). I sure hope that you can feel them sweetie. You are a special lady and I am so glad that I was able to meet you thru the internet and in person. I will NEVER forget when you were sitting there in Louisville at our gathering and explaining to our Breast Friends what each quilt square on your quilt stood for. What special stories! 
I am thankful that you have wonderful people to take care of you and that your lovely daughters are close to you.

Dear Cathi,
I have never met anyone who has fought as hard as you have.
I am so very sorry that things did not improve for you. It was such a shock to come here today and read what you are going through.
I am heartened to read that you are at peace with your decision and I know that all the good things you have done for so many for so long will now come back to you ten-fold so that you have as little pain as possible, feel God's closeness, and know that you have touched the lives of hundreds of women across the world with your kindness and gracious words of support, even in the midst of fighting your own battle.

I am sorry we never got to meet in person. I remember so well our many kitty talks...
Cathi, may God's love fill you with peace and comfort.

I'm coming in kind of late on this thread, but do want to echo what others have said. I have thought of you so often, Cathi, wondering how you were doing. I am so very sad for the pain you have experienced and the course the cancer has taken. Like others have said, "there are no words..." I too remember St. Louis and all the great time we had, the laughter, the tears, the friendships formed and the memories made. I would not have missed that weekend for anything. I hope you find peace and rest in the coming days. Know that prayers and comforting thoughts are always coming your way. Hugs and love always, Lauri

Hello Cathi -- I hope this post finds you well.  You have always been one of the classiest breast friends that I have. I know that Hosice is a decision that we may all face at some time - I can hear the peace in your voice. I picture you view as you look onto the lake. I wish you peace, happiness and rest.

I check-in on the board now and then just to keep up with people though I rarely post anymore. But, when I saw your post I wanted to reply.  You have had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at you since your dx and you have handled all with such grace.  I am very sad to hear that you are now in hospice care but you sound at ease, if that makes any sense.  I am honored that I had the chance to meet you in person  many years ago and I have always had very fond thoughts of you.  It is one of those silver linings that I have tried to find in this wretched disease.  Meeting you is worth more than gold.  I love you.  Christi

Dear Cathi,

I've never been very good at finding the right words. This is one reason I don't post very often. I check in occasionally and was just about to ask if I could come back when I saw this post.

I can picture you at peace now and at least for that I can be grateful. My prayers for peace and comfort for you will be many.

I do believe that we will see each other again. God has prepared a heaven for us that is greater than anything we can imagine.

I remember our first dinner together in St. Louis and how meeting such wonderful people helped me more than anything else ever could have. You are loved by so many. I hope you can feel all of the love that is being sent your way. Di
