After reading some of the posts I have a few questions/ concerns.
about 11 years ago I was diagnosed with DCIS. At my post surgery appt. (after giving me the all clear on the phone) my Dr. told me this was a precancerous condition. At that time he recommended that Tamoxifen although he said there were side effects. He did not suggest that I see an oncologist or any other treatments. Frankly the side effects I read about with Tamoxifen scared me more than the word "precancerous". So I opted not to take it and followed up with a yearly mammogram and self exams.
Now I wish I would have taken someone else with me to that appt. Maybe they would have asked questions that I had not.
I had a mammo about a year and a half ago where I was called back for a follow up. After the second view were taken they said it was only scar tissue that they were seeing. A few months later I found a small lump under my arm and mentioned it to my gyno when I was there scheduling a hysterectomy. She felt it too and suggested another mammo. I eneded up with a sonogram and they could see nothing. I got the feeling that they thought I was paranoid...three mammo and a sonogram in just three months.
Now the thing under my arm is a visible lump the size of a grape and I can feel a lump in my breast no where near my initial surgery site. I have been putting off another mammo because of how they made me feel the last time.
I am seeing my doctor next Tuesday on a totally unrelated issue. But I now think it has become the MAJOR issue.
I had no idea how many times mammos and unltrsounds could be so wrong. I also wish that I would have put more weight on the original DCIS diagnosis.
