Hi,

I'm new here and just needed a place to vent thats not my worriesome husband or family. I am only 30 years old and a couple days ago felt a very noticable lump on the underside of my right breast. It is not painful but is a little red. I would describe it as almost pimple like but theres no pain, no puss, no real pimple head so i dont really think its that. Very hard though but small.  Anyway I thought i should call my family doctor. He has treated my mom who had breast cancer 5 years ago. My grandma also had breast cancer in her 40's and my aunt died of breast cancer when she was in her early 30's. I'm hopeing its nothing but fearing the worst as all i've ever known is they go in for further test and yes its cancer. So just thought id see if any words of wisdom from those who've been through that and if what i do have sounds a lot like something else other then cancer?

Hi Noschmo,

With your family history and even without it any lump needs to be checked out. Could be a cyst, probably is, but it could be something else.

Only way to know is to have it checked and insist on a biopsy and not have a doctor say something like we'll keep a watch on it.

Don't wait.
Keep up with your mammograms too.

My last Mammogram was in 2005, had one August 25th, 2009 I have breast cancer. Learned a hard lesson never had the slighest clue and it was the last thing I expected to hear.

There is no cancer in my entire family so you never know.

Keep us posted and a big welcome to HW. You have come to the right place. I'm sure others with a lot more experience than I will be along to advise you.

She is right. Your family history puts you at higher risk but all hope is not lost. Any woman is at risk and the only way to know for sure is to get it tested, stay on top of things and be your own best advocate. Good chance that it is nothing but no reason to wait and see...

Cant add to the great advice you've gotten. With your family history, you must be scared to death! But from what you describe, I think that there's a good chance this is not cancer. I think you would be wise to have it checked, get started with regular mammograms and regular monthly self-exams, and be vigilant about having changes you find checked by a professional. I recommend that you ask your doctor about sending you to a breast center, where they can keep tabs on you in the years to come because of your family history.
