I've been to North Carolina and New York to see my girls this past week. We celebrated Bri's 8th birthday! (Can she really be 8???) It's always a bittersweet day for me. While I was at one hospital with my daughter, my wonderful friend, JoAnnie, was at another hospital getting the scans that would detect her metastatic disease. I called her early that morning to share our good news, that the baby was on the way, and she was so thrilled! "It's a good sign, don't you think?" she said. Everything was a sign to JoAnn! It was also 7 years to the day of my first mammogram, which totally missed my cancer. Thank God I had a doctor who didn't stop there and insisted on a biopsy. Cancer just reaches out and touches the most special of moments, doesn't it? Like a shadow in an otherwise perfect picture.
But we had a good day. Took Bri shopping for a new bike and new shoes (oh, but she does take after her grandmama!), and we bought the biggest pinata I have ever seen for her party. It was an 8-pointed star that we barely got in the backseat of the car. That sucker held $80 worth of friggin' candy! The kids had a blast with it, though, and it was a bit like an early Halloween when those kids took their loot bags home. My daughter had bought these cute little bags at the Party Store. Man, those kids needed serious grocery bags, not those little treat bags! I bet their parents are just thrilled with us! LOL My daughter will probably be getting the dental bills as "thank you's!"
Then we headed to NY to see our other daughter and the grandpuppies. I had so forgotten that Long Island is a world unto itself! Except for the hubby being a stick in the mud, we had a great time.
We had our house fairy dog sit for us, which was a great idea, because we came home to a spotless house... he even cleaned the carpets while we were gone! It was a real treat!
Anyway, I really enjoyed the trip, but we're glad to be home.
Hugs to all...
