I was surprised, yet again. He wasn't wild the idea of a oopherectomy or a hysterectomy if it's just to lessen risk of cancer. He said that there isn't much risk of ovarian cancer if I don't have the gene, and we don't know if I have it yet, won't know that until mid december. He also didn't think a hysterectomy was that important for preventing cancer of the uteris. After his conferal, I told him I was still left with one of the main reasons I want the hysterectomy and oopher. This possible adenomyosis condition makes my sonograms abnormal (ovaries and endriometrial lining) and necessitates biopsies. I'd be having them periodically over the next five years. I do not want more biopsies, and want to get rid of any risk, however small (and it may not be small for the ovaries, we don't know yet.) As I said, I want to get rid of the hardware if it's presenting a risk and I don't use it. He agreed that if that's why I want it, it's a good reason.
The OB-GYN I went to was someone my onc didn't know. My PCP doesn't know him either. He's new to this area. I asked my onc who he would send his wife to if she needed a hysterectomy, and he told me. I may go for a second opinion there, although I like this OB-GYN, and the opinion I have gotten, but it's always good to go for another one. I'm going to look the other guy up.
ALSO, anyone having libidinal problems? The ob-gyn mentioned testosterone, pure testosterone, not the stuff that's currently on the market (which has estrogen), but from a compound pharmacy that can make it's own formula. This is what you'd have to get until they come out with the methyl testosterone patch, which should be any day now. He said it helps women's sex drives. My onc didn't see a problem with my taking a trial of it. Only thing is for me it may mess with my throat. I'll look into that. Also may have other wierd side effects. Neat, huh
Thanks for all your replys. I love reading them. Back to the dissertation, now that I've dabbled in the medical rehlm. I'm definately telling my committee that I'm going to be scheduling surgery, maybe get them to read a little faster!!!!!
