I would hope that she is just being very careful. A bone scan will show "chunks" of cancer, but they aren't great for picking up tiny spots. And if these spots are too small for a biopsy, they might be too small to show on a bone scan. My oncologist has always erred on the side of caution and done follow-up tests, but she has never told me she thought I had mets when I didn't. I did have a family doctor tell me I had mets, based on a bone scan, when I didn't, but I had gone to get follow-up tests from her since my onc was out of the country for a few days. I was pretty furious with that doctor, especially when my onc got back, ordered the follow-ups, and the spots were not mets.
I think going to another doctor for a second opinion is the right thing for you to do. What were the actual findings on the PET? Did you get a copy of the report?
