So I had my mammogram today at 7:15. Really nice tech worked with me. Did the standard 4 films, then came back to do another of my left and another of the area on my right where the lump is. She said the Radiologist was not in yet, so I should call later in the day to see if they had read my films yet. She also said I probably would need to have an ultrasound. So does that mean she saw something on my films?

Anyway, I called the Department just now and was told that Gee, it usually takes about 3 days to get the results and the Radiologist doesn't read them until the last thing in the day so he can read them all at once. I'm starting to get frustrated with people telling me one thing and then being told something so different when it comes to time frames. Really hard to tell who's telling the truth.

Taking a few days is normal....frustrating and anxiety-ridden, but normal. Sometimes films have to be sent out to be read then they have to dictate reports, have them transcribed and sent back to the clinic. The ultrtasound is pretty standard. In my case, the lump was actually not seen on the mammogram. The ultrasound gives them another look at the area. Even if the lump looks like nothing, an ultrasound can help determine better about the size, location, density, etc.

Sit tight and try to keep busy this weekend, you will hopefully get the results early next week.

Oh Sarah, unfortunately that is the way it goes. When my mammogram showed a problem the hospital kept trying to call me at home when I was working and they had my work number. After two weeks of calling me, they sent me a letter telling me I needed to call them to come back for closer view and sonogram. The letter arrived just as I was to leave for a week's business trip, so I had to call back and schedule for two weeks ahead. I was so disgusted. If they had called the work number I could have gone the next day and had it all over a month earlier. Waiting is very hard. We all agree on that. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets greased and sometimes not. AND another thing, it is always on a Friday that these things happen so we can do nothing until Monday at the earliest. ALWAYS Hugs MK

Dear Sarah...my first mammogram showed nothing. I got the "all clear" letter the day after I was diagnosed with two different types of breast cancer. My last mammogram, I had a call-back because they inadvertently ordered a screening rather than a diagnostic procedure. It took two weeks to get the call-back, then another 6 to get another diagnositc mammogram scheduled. When I saw the "mass" on the original mammogram, I thought that was it. Turned out to be nothing once they did the compression views. The radiologist talked to me and showed me the pictures before I left the office. I left in total shock...I had been prepared for and expecting the worst!

The moral of this story: You just never know how it's going to work, even if you keep going to the same place!!!

The good news is, they want to be sure they have it right. Hope yours turns out to be nothing.
