Ellen has suggested this date and place for spring gathering. Can we make it a go?? The date works for me. We need a hotel. Lauri

Good Morning: Cleveland would be a great place to meet. So much to do or not do whatever your preference. The Art Museum is the best. I would be with you in spirit and thoughts as that week-end is already packed full for me. I will be happy to keep your countdown for you all that will be attending. Love and Hugs, Candy

With the things that have popped into my life lately, I cannot be sure of anything. My mother drove from my brother's home last week, an hour trip and got lost for over six hours. He got a call from a furniture company she was there and lost, eight hours after she left his house. The frightening part is that she was very unconcerned about it all, laughing and saying she was fine and not frightened at all. Her birthday is May8, Mother's Day, there is talk about my kids in Cincy flying me up there and all of us going for a party to celebrate her 92nd..... Then there is this nagging little thing about the diagnostic mammo and what might be needed following that. So I just can't plan or be sure of anything. Go ahead and plan and if I can make it, I will even if just for one day. Hugs MK

The date is good for me and the weather in Cleveland should be nice mid-May.  Not too hot yet and still warm enough to enjoy being outdoors.

 

I've started looking at hotels in the area and we need to decide if we want to be downtown where the action is; Jacob's Field (Indians), Rock & Roll HOF, shopping, dining and the flats OR closer to the airport.  I'd suggest the downtown area.  The hotels cost a little more but you can walk to so many things.

 

Downtown has several hotels to choose from and a varied price; Comfort Inn / app. $75, Holiday Inn Express / app. $90 ,Embassy Suites / app. $105, Hyatt Regency / app. $139, Renaissance Cleveland / app. $149, Sheraton cleveland City Centre / app. $149, Hilton Garden Inn Cleveland Downtown / app. $169, AND the Ritz Carlton at about $199 a night.  These are just approximate rates I found online.  I'm not sure but the only one that appears to have suites is the Embassy Suites.

 

How many rooms would we need?  I could get in touch with these hotels and find out what the rate would be for a block of rooms.  Have you ever had a hotel give you deals for that?  Or for other things?

 

Anything else I can help with just let me know.  I don't work outside the home right now so I can offer my time for doing the research.  And I live just an hour from Cleve. so can find out almost anything we need to know.  Also, I have a sister who lives in cleveland and used to work at Jacob's field so she can help with downtown info.

 

It seems like this is taking shape!  I'm so excited!!!!

Mia, I am not sure how many rooms we might need. I think 15-20 might be an estimate, but often gals share a room. If you talk to any of the hotels, see if they will give us a special rate. Sounds like you were looking at rack rates. Usually we can get much better (lower) prices. Lauri

Would love to come, but don't think I could that weekend.  I am committed at work May 9-13th as the manager's are out of the office.  Also not knowing what will happen with my "recall" mammogram (MK - don't you feel like you are being recalled), I can say that weekend probably won't work for me either.

Can I give you some Travel Agent insite, Mia, when you are calling for hotel rates and any other plans you may make?  Let them know this is a Breast Cancer Survivor's group that is coming.  They may give you a better rate - depending on what else is occurring in the city that weekend. Many times if you ask for a group rate, they make you committ to a certain number of rooms, so be cautious of that.  One thing about the Embassy Suites is that - 1) they are all suites, so you can usually plan on 4 or 5 people to a room and 2) they have free made to order breakfasts and afternoon cocktail and snacks (as far as I know all ES that do this).  So your rate wouldn't cost each person that much per day and would save at least 1 meal.  We stay at ES when we go to larger cities because of this last perk.  Some of the others you mentioned probably have a breakfast type perk also.  I don't know if this group will want, but it is something to ask for - a room where everyone can meet and greet, hangout or whatever - and what type charge is there for that?  Just a few things that I check on when booking groups.

Sorry to be lengthy, but wanted to share this information and wish I could come - especially to see the Rock and Roll HOF.  My dream is to see that.

Thanks for the info Mia and Kitty! I stayed at the Embassy Suites in Seattle area before and it was a beautiful hotel! They even had a reception from 5-7 pm where you got free drinks and snacks! I looked at the website in the Cleveland one, and they also have the 2 bedroom suites with a queen bed in each bedroom and they look very nice. Probably have a fold out couch bed in the living room also. A lot like what we had in Louisville. Anyway, you may want to check out the website.

From what I've heard with responses here and what I've seen of the facility online I think the Embassy Suites sounds like it would fit our needs.  But of course it would depend on price, availability and everyone's vote.  With that in mind I am in the midst of gathering info on group rates and a meeting room there.  I will post it here when I get answers and we can decide from there.  Now we also need to make sure the date works with the concensus.  So, please post and let us know if this date will work for you or if the following weekend would be better.  Maybe I will just start another post with a poll.  I'm not sure how that works, I've never tried it but maybe that will help to finalize the best dates for all.

 

I will also look into other things going on in the area those weekends.  Maybe there will be some great concerts or plays.

I love the Embassy suites.  The breakfast that comes with the room is fantastic and the drinks are pretty good too.  This date is fine with me but seems maybe quick for our out of towners with plane fares and all that.  I will probably just stay with my sister in Amherst for the weekend but will have my Tony and Jordan with me.
