Mo Gov wins....medicaid/medicare recipients lose

Well, the wonderful confused  young 34 yo governor of the State of Mo has managed to get his way thru the legislature. Today both the House and Senate passed legislation that makes deep, deep cuts into the Medicaid/Medicare program. In fact, at this moment, I am wondering how my treatments are going to be paid.(almost $10,000.00 weekly) When I was first diagnosed I had no insurance (I was working 39 1/2 hrs a wk..supp to go full time for 3 mos) so I qualified for medicaid. After treatments, I went back to work. Then when I was rediagnosed with mets to the bones, I qualified for full disability. But still not old enough to qualify for Medicare. My employer fired me once I had the diagnosis. I couldn't go after him because he had less than 15 full time employees. Now, thanks to this ignorant, silverspoon fed, daddy's boy (daddy was Mo Sec of State and now is in Congress) I may not be able to continue with my treatments. He has cut hospice care, oxygen, hearing aids, prothestics, wheelchairs, eye and dental as well as lowered the income you can make from $900 a month to $500. I'm not sure what I am going to do. I testified before both the House and Senate committees (what a joke since the repub have the majority and our gov is repub) along with about 300 others. Tonite I have allowed myself to cry but tomorrow I am going to seek an attorney and start a class action suit to see if this can be stopped. Thanks for letting me vent. If there is anyone on the boards from Mo, please let me know.

that's simply awful news. my heart goes out to you. I'll log onto chat for a wee while if you want to chat.
I hope others from your State can join you with your class action.

Deb, that is totally unconscionable that those programs would be cut and the limit of $900 lowered to $500.  Your governor wil literally be killing people who find themselves uninsured or poor or both.  I hope you get somewhere with your class action suit.  Ellen who followed the ivillage group and who still knows many of you, but with ovarian cancer

Deb, I have long called for a legalized hitwoman company where things like this could be settled once and for all.

I know that you aren't old enough to qualify for Medicare but what about getting SSI, their disability payments?

I am still calling for a "Two Million Woman March" on Washington, DC. (I have upped it from 1 million because there are so many new ladies on our board.) Maybe then we'll be taken seriously. But my paranoid side says that this is all a plot so they won't have to pay us long-term social security benefits.

I wish you the best of luck with an attorney. The politicians always seem to cut the benefits of the needy before they think of reducing their salaries, cutting their enormous expense accounts, and stopping needless funding for a chosen few. The only comment I could have to all of them is:" Y'all suck".

Let me know how you are doing as this goes on. You really need the break.

PS - $6000 is way below the "poverty level" as defined by the US Govt.

Deb, I'm so sorry to hear that this bozo has so little regard for social welfare. Wealthy people have no business making decisions like this without a lot of input from the ordinary citizens who rely on these programs. I will keep you in my prayers, Deb.

Thanks for all of the support and words. I had my night of crying and now am just plain mad. As my dd's friends say...it's not wise to make Deb mad! My neighbor is an attorney that works for the Attorney General's office (AG is democrat..thank heavens) He is researching to see if there is anywhere that this ignorant gov has gone against fed guidelines on the program cuts. He feels that there is. We worked on it some today and will continue throughout the week. I also talked with a friend of mine. He is an excellent attorney and he is going to see what type of lawsuit needs to be filed to stop this.

Jo-Ann, I am now of full disability. I did receive SSI last yr until the disability was approved. From what I understand, since I will turn 55 the end of this month, I should qualify for medicare..due to the approved disability. I worked, off and on, for the State of Mo for 19 1/2 yrs. I was told this past week that I can start drawing on my retirement but it will only be $200 a month until I am 65. Give me a break! I told the gal to do some refiguring because I had worked to earn that money and I am NOT planning on waiting until I am 65 to get it. Let me know when you are going to have that march. I will be there. WAsn't there a movie that had Roseann Barr in it. She got a group of women together and they got even with x-husbands and bosses? Sounds like a heck of an idea to me.

Nine to Five was a movie like that with Dolly Parton. I loved it and laughed so hard, wishing I could have done some of the things they did. Don't know what your state retirement is like but I worked for schools in OH and when I went on retirement I lost $120 from SS retirement because of the stupid double dipping law. I got $241 from OH and lost $120, go figure!!!! My OH retirement is the best, tho, for all the money I earned working at school for only 13 1/2 years, I get more retirement vs what I paid and earned in SS benefits. Hugs MK
