Okay.  This is one of the strangest twists I have ever been through.  As you know, new spot on bone scan, MRI followed with recommendation for bone biopsy of the spots.  Onc nurse was supposed to schedule it and call me on Monday, but I didn't hear from her.  I called her on Tuesday.  A "ta-ta" neuro-radiologist had reviewed my MRI, and she doesn't think the spots are breast cancer, she thinks they are fatty cells in the bone marrow (great, even my bone marrow is getting fat!) or hemangiomas, and therefore, should not do a bone biopsy.  Hadn't gone by the onc yet, so she was to call me yesterday.  I called at 4:00 today.  Onc said okay, if "ta-ta" radiologist says no biopsy, then no biopsy.   We'll just run tests again in June at my next visit.

So I say,"Well, then, tell me this...would the fatty cells in the bone marrow or hemangiomas cause the increased uptake on the bone scan?"

NO. 

Now, obviously, I want this to be NOTHING more than anybody, but somehow, I'm not as reassured by "ta-ta's" assessment as everyone else is.  Am I being a prima donna, or would you guys want more answers than this as well?

I resorted to baking a fresh asparagus souffle for dinner last night, and I HATE to friggin' cook!  True desparation on my part to keep my mind on other things!  LOL

I'd want more answers, too. Go with your gut instinct - you're first reaction. You know yourself better than anyone, and you have to feel comfortable so that you can sleep each night. I am praying that the "ta-ta's" assessment is correct!!!!!

Bev:  I agree with Laure. Go with your gut instinct and get another opinion. I would not want to worry another 3 or 6 months wondering. If it is nothing then fantastic but if it is something, then it will be caught early and is very treatable. As for the cooking, I don't know that I am ever that desperate. lol No matter what "Jo-Annie" would say, mine would come out flat as a pancake and taste like dirt!

As happy as I am with the good news, I could almost even hug ta-ta right now, I doubt that you want to wait and worry about it for 6 months. However, I sometimes don't want to be tested either. I was supposed to make scan appointments for June weeks ago and still haven't done it. Steve's mom passed away etc. Fact is, I just want more time before I go so who am I to tell you what to do. I depends on how much you trust you doctors. Since I fired all of my bad ones, the ones I have now I treasure and would trust their feelings.

Well you know in your heart. I am sure you just want to hear the rest of us say so. I say go back and tell them you do not pay for I thinks. Would they be willing to bet their life on her I thinks......I bet not. I am praying for you to hear exactly what you want only from someone that knows. Not thinks. As for the asparagus souffle, I could not get that upset. Now that is to much like work. L&H Joyce

Wow, Bev...what a dilemma...you are right, that you want this to be nothing more than ANYONE...but sounds not quite reassuring enough. Your question about would fatty tumors cause increased uptake for the MRI was right on....but did you ask him if a pork chop bone could cause it?

My friend had knee pain a couple years ago, and they did an MRI, and told her she had too many red blood cells in her marrow and might have leukemia, and go see a hematologist. Nice. Turns out the red blood cells in her marrow were due to an inherited blood disorder cured with a splenectomy....point is that there are many things that could be in the bone marrow besides cancer, and I would encourage you to get a 2nd opinion too....just to be sure. I hear pork chop bones cause a lot of grief on MRI's....

If getting another opinion is what will help you sleep at night, then do it. I am a firm believer on listening to our bodies.

I don't like "ta-ta's" name. What does it mean? She is uppity? Know it all? Somehow she is just not gelling with me. Listen to your gut. Gosh I love to cook and a souffle is more than I want to take on. I will take my asparagus creamed on toast, thanks. LOL. Please get more answers and let us know what the heck is going on. I hope no birds are flying in your front door, JoAnnie would be sending a message for sure. She was a trip, wasn't she? Hugs MK

Susan... a pork chop bone is a good thing. I cannot recall the details, but it has to do with wishing that all our spots and lumps are pork chop bones. Meaning that we wish it is a big silly ol' nothing. Who recalls the story of how that phrase came to be? All I remember is one of our sweet sisters, who lost her battle, said that she wished all our tumors to turn out to be pork chop bones. I'll post a new thread and see who chimes in.
