The most important thing is that you are comfortable with the plan, and obviously, since you are seeking a second opinion from a surgeon, you are not comfortable with the plan! Did they possibly refer to the lump as a "lipoma?" These often don't show up on mammogram or ultrasound. They are basically encapsulated fat that creates a lump similar to what you described. They often do a fine needle aspiration or a core biopsy just to be sure that it is, in fact, fat in the lump. Dense breast tissue is common for younger women, but it can hide a myriad of things, including cancerous lumps (I had two, and both were missed by mammography). So personally, I think you are wise to be getting a second opinion. Hope he agrees that this is nothing to be worried about. Let me know how it goes!
