When I was in my thirties I started to develop breast cysts after several miscarriages. At that time I was referred to a surgeon and the cysts were aspirated over and over again and I got one mammogram after the other, which in retrospect I thought was not a good idea. I was also very angry when I had to change insurances and honest as I am, I gave the cysts as the only problem I had, and consequently their treatment was excluded. After menopause my breasts became smaller and smaller , so obviously the cysts disappeared.
Now I am 68 and suddenly I develop again massive painful cysts in my left breast.
When I was younger I was very angry that nobody knew why we develop these cysts and what to do about it beside aspiration. Mine were very painful and I followed religiously the advice not to drink coffee and eat chocolate. Later I found out that it made no difference at all.
I have not seen a doctor yet and I just launched this internet search to find out if anybody knows more about breasts cysts now and if there are other post menopausal women who suffer from it.
The only change I have done in my lifestyle recently is to go vegan. I do not take any supplements, I just eat generally healthy. I also do not take any hormones.
I just signed up for this site and I have to learn to navigate the site, but there was one lady, who wrote that if the men's scrotum would suddenly become much bigger, tons of research would be done to look into the causes.
Obviously with our culture who glorifies huge breasts nobody cares if we have painful cyst-filled breasts, though I have been told over and over again that it is very common. I personally never cared for big breasts, I am very active and much more comfortable if my breasts are their normal size without the cysts.
