Hi I am 25 years old and have found a large hard mass in my breast about three weeks ago. I am scheduled for a mamo and ultra sound in a few days but I am just going crazy waiting for the tests. I also have been suffering with late stage Lyme disease for 9 yrs. I have a ton of family history with cancer particularly breast cancer. I was hoping to just get a little piece of mind here. It is painful and I heard that is good news. If anyone could give me any insight I would really appreciate it. :-)

Family history is definitely enough to warrant thoroughly investigating this lump. It could very well be a cyst or a fibroadenoma, both of which are very common in young women. So try not to worry too much about this... which I know, is easier said than done. Hope your tests turn out to be nothing. Let me know.

Thank you I am hoping it is nothing :) I get the tests tomorrow so I will post results on here when I get them.

Well I am very irritated with my local hospital again! I was scheduled for a mamo and and ultra sound (which at my hospital they say that you have to do both if there is a suspicious lump). As soon as I walked in they said I was way to young to have any type of breast tumors or cancer. I am 25 and I know plenty of women who have fought cancer in their 20's. So because of my age they canceled the mamo and decided to just do an ultra sound where the tech felt the lump and took 3 pictures all around my breast only one of them was anywhere near the lump. Then she leaves and comes back in and says since my age they aren't sure but it could be just inflamed tissue and since it has only been going on a month that I should wait at least another 3 weeks and if I want to I can come back then they will do a mamo. Don't get me wrong I really do hope that it is just inflamed tissue and i'm sure it is nothing but I feel like I was treated different because of my age and the test was not thorough enough to comfort me.

I agree with you. If your doctor ordered tests, I don't think the hospital should question his judgment. If I were him, I would be throwing a major fit with the technicians or radiologists who made this determination for him. At least they did an ultrasound. You are right, it is probably nothing, but here's the good news... breast cancer is a slow-growing cancer, so if there is something suspicious there, three weeks would probably be insignificant in terms of outcome. Lots of women have to wait 6 weeks or more to get a mammogram, weeks more to get a biopsy, and weeks more for surgery, even after their doctors have identified a suspicious lump.

Hope it is nothing more than inflamed tissue. And sorry you were treated so poorly! I knew a young lady who was diagnosed at 19, and she passed away at the age of 25, after a 6 year battle with the disease. So probably, this is nothing. But stay on this if you don't see improvement in the next few weeks!

Thank you Bev the lump is still there but it isn't as sore so I am thinking that it may just be inflamed tissue. I just wish more doctors treated patients like they should. :)

I hate to have to be posting on here again... hopefully I am not wasting anyone's time but, I still have the lump for a total of 8 months. I moved a few months after I posted on here and put the lump on the back burner I now have a PICC line since September and have been using IV antibiotics for my Lyme disease which has been helping. Once a few of my Lyme symptoms started to go away I can really feel the pain from this lump now! I am getting a second ultrasound now and hopefully a mammogram. I'm 26 now they can't put me in the 25 and under category anymore turn T`he lump has grown a little bigger and it isn't really thick but very wide. My concern is my family history is with IBC and I have read that that can't been seen on mammo and ultrasound is that true? Any advice?

My doctor's office call all over the place to get me into a place that wasn't going to dismiss me because of my age (29). They took my concerns seriously afther the first place that I was scheduled to go to was just going to do an ultrasound on the right where I found the lump. I'm glad I got to where I am at now because they decided to do a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound on both breasts and the right lump was not of concern, but what they found on the left was of great concern and I am having a biopsy next week. Practically every woman on my mother's side has dealt with breast cancer and my grandmother and great grandmother passed away before 45 from breast cancer. You need to keep pressing the issue if it is something that you feel needs to be looked at. I'm so thankful to be in a place that looks at the full picture and not just my age.

Mfsonly1 thank you that's a good idea I think ill ask my doctor to look around and try and find someone. 9 months is a long time right? The new place called me for an apt and said no mammo even if it has been 9 months. I'm not really sure why they are so strict about that? Good luck to you with the testing ill send positive thoughts your way!

Guess what, that hospital is NOT fit to be one, well based on my medical um knowledge. I can't give medical opinions here, site rules.

However, I'd go to a teaching hospital.


PS it is probably nothing, because you aren't having other symptoms. And I started chemotherapy in 2008, and I'm 31 I don't have breast cancer, but a tumor behind my eye. This is the only cancer related forum here so they let me talk away my mind.

The hospital is certainly wrong. I also know kids, a 2 year old died a couple years ago actually from cancer. Those doctors would just love me, I'd question their training, tell them to go back, take it to the board of directors and demand a second medical opinion, of which by law you are entitled to. And a person can have as many second medical opinions as they wish.

It is safer than to be sorry. No mammo? it probably is with the insurance there of your primiary doing the orders needs to submit a prior opp
