I remember by onc (at Duke University) telling me when i was dx in 2001 that surviving 5 years would give us so many more options because we were 'just around the corner' from alot of new drugs.  I didn't believe him then, but (happily) that seems more true now....

I hope they find a ton more !! and cancer becomes a 'managed chronic illness'....that's my prayer for all of us tonite.

I like hearing good positive news about drugs and treatments, thanks for sharing. WARNING I am about to get on the soap box....

I certainly hope some progress is being made towards finding the cure and more importantly the real cause of cancer. BUT will anyone listen when they do? How many are still fighting that nicotine addiction? I admit that I didn't listen to the "Smoking may cause cancer" warning before my diagnosis, either. And as far as food choices go, I am not doing well in that department, either. However, my diet is not that far from my grandparents except they had home grown garden vegetables instead of produce counter variety. And they did not eat the amount of meat we eat today, servings were much smaller, families were larger and a pound of hamburger went a long way. Cancer was not such a big deal then, so that is my rationalization, it can't be food. But yes it can. LOL I have my head in the sand again.

AND are any of you as tired as I am of reading about well known people who have been diagnosed with cancer and within months and some treatment they announce that they are cured, the cancer is gone? Like it is really and truly gone? After sharing information with so many women here who have breast cancer over so many years, we know that it is impossible to know if the cancer is gone so quickly. When I read or hear these stories it makes me feel like the public is being led astray as we are on so many things in the news these days. I want to write a letter to the editor or email the TV station .... I have become so cynical about anything in the news anymore. Pardon me, let me tell you about a friend of mine who was cancer free for ten years suddenly had it show up again, no one had seen it over those ten years of NED but it was lurking and then it was back everywhere. It was about this time two or three years ago that I lost that dear friend who went through the bone marrow transplant, bilateral mastectomies, radiation, you name it.

I guess I am going through an angry spell right now and it is probably best I just try and sit on my hands. I want all my friends here cured so that NED means just what it is supposed to mean. I pray that all who are going through bad times right now get better soon and enjoy life without worrying about that next treatment or the next PET scan or blood test.
