Breast cancer bone metastasis and anemia

Hi, looking for some help understanding what's going on with my Mom.  74 Y/O in phenomenal health, Dx'd with BCa in June 2012 at age 73; single mastectomy went very well, but 2 weeks later bone mets found in follow-up CT scan. 

Currently on Tamoxifen 20 mg. / day and a once a month injection of Xgeva. 

 

Last night she ended up in ER requiring two blood transfusions due to anemia - hemoglobin count down to 6.?

Can anyone out here provide me with more information on the whole bone mets / anemia issue?  How serious is this?  Or, is it just something that comes with the territory and can be managed?

Could the anemia also be caused by the hormone / meds she is taking?

Is anyone out here?  Did I word this incorrectly?????  I am really looking for some understanding on what my Mom is going through - can anyone help?????

I don't have any answers for you but I hope that by now you have gotten some from the dr.
I'm going through scans right now because my dr is thinking I could have a recurrence after 8 years.
I pray that your mother is feeling better by now and all is worked out.

Hi BAK - thanks for taking time to post here. . . I really don't understand the lack of postings in this "Breast Cancer" forum. . .

Mom outwardly seems to be doing well, always cheerful, still doing her twice daily walks - but she's not eating much and is losing weight noticeably. . . . I just wonder if she's sharing everything with us.

Heah there Yoop...just happened to 'drive by' and saw your post. If I may suggest: there's another website with a much more active BCa forum: www.cancerforum.net. You'll see forums for just about every type of cancer there.

Well hello Sephie! And thanks for the tip about cancerforum, hadn't thought about that!

I have to admit I was / am floored by the lack of response I got here - guess we really are "lucky" on the PCa forum to have so much activity.
