Special Views after Mammogram

I had a mammogram in early February and have had to wait a month for special views and an ultrasound.  The reason they gave me was a clarity issue and unclear image of breast.  They told me this was common as I had not had a previous mammogram for comparison.  I have been worried sick, can't sleep, thinking the worst.  Is this common or something to be concerned about. They also told me 80% of women referred for further testing end up being ok.  Also went on to say that only 1  out of 10 have cancer after further testing.

At this juncture, I would not worry.

I have been called back for repeat mammograms in the past, especially when a great length of time had passed and they didn't have a recent one for comparison. That, in itself, is not an unusual request.

As for the statistics, whoever told you that might have been just tossing some random numbers out there. And to be honest, I don't know what those numbers actually are.

But I'm here to tell you that what you were told is not unusual.

Thanks, it is easier said that done not to worry and constantly think about it.  The numbers that were given to me are from the Breast Screening Clinic and the technician that did the mammogram.  She told me it was a problem with clarity issue with mammogram and the fact that I had not had previous mammogram.  Worrying doesn't do any good but you always think the worst.

You're absolutely right of course.

It's always easier for someone else to tell you not to worry. I get it. I also get told the same thing about other issues I have going on in my life. It's our bodies and of course we're going to be concerned. Self-preservation is the highest brain function....and part of that also includes our thoughts going wild with possibilities.

I posted to let you know that other people have had the same issue before, and sometimes more than once. What you've been told and what you're experiencing, in and of itself, isn't something foreign or only done or only when there's bad news.

Ever think that the tech who did the mammogram maybe didn't get a clear image?

On June 10, had spot compression and ultrasound. Today is June 23 and no word on results.
Guess there can't be any problems or I would have heard something by now.

Today is Monday July 7, 2014, still no word from cone magnification and ultrasound done on June 10, 2014.I would assume at this point everything is ok.

If you still haven't heard anything, general rule in most doctor's offices is that they'd only phone/contact you if something suspicious turned up.

I know in my own doctor's office, they have multiple signs posted everywhere (including the bathroom!) stating to NOT phone the office for test results....

((sigh))

If the results are normal, it's typical that they'll send you something by traditional snail-mail with your results. If you haven't received that, I personally don't think it would be out of the question to schedule an appointment with your doc to review the results.

Today is July 31 had spot compression and ultrasound on June 10. The doctor told me prior to June 10 that she would phone the results as she didn't want patients to worry and they could get on with their life. Have not heard anything so I am going to assume everything is fine.

had my first mammogram and got the dreaded call back.

Asked scheduler for the dr to call me so I know why.  Finally the nurse  called on behalf of the dr. and said "Nothing suspicious, but due to calcifications and your first mammogram as nothing to compare it to, they went you to come back".  Should I be worried?????
