I am 54 years old with a family history of breast cancer......mom and sister as well as a paternal aunt. Have been having annual mammograms since age 40. Always got the all clear. This year annual mammogram done 3/6 and the radiologist discovered a 6mm assymetry on my right breast. This all I can get my PCP office to tell me. The radiologist recommended a spot compression both breasts and a ultrasound on the right. He also said I do not have dense breast tissue.
First time ever getting a report like this. Based on my family history......I'm really scared.

If you don't have dense breast tissue, (like I always have, thus always needed re-tests), then your doctor is doing their job of wanting to get clearer pictures of any areas that didn't show up well.

This is not uncommon. I used to get nervous every time they needed another ultrasound because of this or that, but after enough, I've come to realize, every time we get called to come back in for additional testing, that does not mean the sky is falling.

Thank you for your response. Just have to wait until all testing is done. Tests are scheduled for 4/1.
