are you the one here who had back surgery with a neuro surgeon? If so how did it go? That is one of my options, but it scares the heck out of me! If it wasn't you, do you remember who it was? How was the recovery time?

Yes Gail, it was me. It has been alittle over 2 years since I had the surgery. I have to say that it took longer to recoup than I thought it would. Eventually things were better and I do feel like it was worth going thru. I am not saying however, that it worked miracles for me but I am without that constant pain that I was having before the surgery. Now, it just seems like the weather gets it kicked up and if I overdo, then I pay for it. However, if I behave myself and don't over work those back muscles things run pretty smoothly. I know what you mean about being scared............I was petrified to have it done. I did my homework though, and found a respected surgeon that has been around A LONG TIME! I still can't believe that they released me the day AFTER my surgery to ride home (which takes an hour from the hospital).
I was off work for 3 months afterward...........but was happy for that because my daughter had my youngest grandchild during that time and I was able to spend some quality time with the both of them.............AHHHHHHH, what memories!

I will say a prayer for you to find the right answer to your back problems. Make sure that you get a REALLY good surgeon and don't be afraid to ask him to give you names of patients that he has helped.

PS. Have you had an MRI yet of your back?

Hi Deb,
Thank you for the info, I thought it was you. Yes I have had several MRI's over the last 3 years or so. There are a number of things going on in my back. One is degenerative disease which I know most people end up with even though it may not bother them. Also Arthritus, facet joint problems, possibly, but probably not, ankylosing spondylitius. I do have the gene but now the Rhuemy does not think it is, but is not sure....=( The place the nerve comes out from the spine is narrowing so it is pinching a nerve. A herniated disk and some others buldging (sp?) I can't remember all of it without the MRI in front of my and someone speaking "english" for me, lol. Anyway, my Dr said I could try the shots, or he could send me to the neuro surgeon, I said let's try the shots! ={}
I don't even know if the surgeon would say he could help, but I will try the shots first. What was wrong with your back? You say it has helped with the pain? That is good to know. I am sick of hurting all the time.

Gail, here is what they did to me ( i had to look it up, all of this medical lingo is foreign to me!).
Hemilaminectomy L2 & L4, complete Laminectomy L3, Excision of L3 & 4, Disc herniation

Sure hope that the shots help you. They did help me for awhile, and then the pain came back again.
