Painless lump. Doctor doesn't know what it is.

I'm 28 and I've had a painless lump that is visible and can be felt at the top of my right breast for months. It's hard, doesn't feel like I can move it, and won't go away. Got sent to have an ultrasound that didn't show anything, at all. Everyone in the room felt it easily but couldn't see it in imaging. Doc said she didn't know what it was but could be a injury to my rib. It doesn't hurt though?!?! She didn't suggest anything else and now I'm more confused than before.

Hi, just wanted to help you... it is most likely something benign, but I think you should make an appointment with a breast surgeon.
My lump couldn't be seen on imaging the first time, but then I was sent to a more skilled sonographer and she was able to spot it.

Thank you. I'm worried that they didn't see it because of my dense tissue. I hear about people like you, who had imaging that missed it, and I feel like I should explore for a second opinion. Doctor says it's not showing up, (only one test has been done) so I shouldn't worry.

Try again. I went to a breast surgeon (hoping to get it biopsied) she agreed to do it for me, and then (after the second sonographer found it on imaging) the breast surgeon with her own machine could not find it. I am now scheduled to have an ultrasound guided biopsy done by a radiologist (I guess he is the most skilled to find the lump), so hopefully I will get this sorted out.

It's so frustrating. I don't know how an ultrasound can't find it but everyone can feel it by touch. I feel like giving up on finding out what it is.

That is what my GYN told me to do. If they didn't find it on ultrasound that is good news and forget about it. However, after reading the scaring stories online I am pushing for a biopsy.

Yeah, they told me the same. I had an X-ray today to see if it was bone related (pointless) and nothing showed except scarring on my lung? I've got my PCP sending me for a MRI finally. Don't know if it'll help but maybe ask for an MRI? I've heard they can see things ultrasounds can't.

Yes I heard that too. Thats great they are sending you for an MRI hopefully you can get to the bottom of it. I thought since they can see it, they can biopsy it...
Do you have any family history of BC?

So I had a breast MRI scheduled for yesterday and got a call in the morning that another doctor had cancelled the MRI for me because it was not necessary. My pcp ordered the test because she felt that it WAS necessary. I'm not sure how they can do that. So now my pcp is sending me for a regular chest MRI, not a breast one, since they aren't cooperating. I feel like I'm pulling a tooth, to simply get further evaluation for a very obvious lump. My dad's side had breast cancer.

My cardiologist also called me today because she wants to do a second heart surgery. UGH

I am sorry to hear what you are going through Djry11. It is so frustrating... When I had the second ultrasound (first one tech lady didn't find anything she only scanned half of my breast), after the script said entire breast, I had to do another one, they did entire breast and found the lump...thankfully, but I had to fight with my insurance and it was't my fault that they messed up the first one.

I would still argue with PCP for a breast MRI... I don't know I am sorry to hear what you are going through it is like pulling teeth, you are right. It's sad because look at you, you are aggressive and they won't let you get as far as you should. Imagine the other people who slip between the cracks. NO one cares...

I hope it works well for you and good luck with the heart surgery...it will all pass and sunshine is just around the corner (that is how I like to think)

I had the biopsy, it was honestly a piece of cake, although they give you nothing to cover your eyes so I turned away since I did not want to watch them cut a piece of my breast lol...

Thanks! I had an MRI, but they scheduled one without contrast. Grrr. The test was pretty much pointless. They didn't see anything. No duh!
They said they aren't doing anything else. Just wait and watch. It's been there for months.... What do they think is going to happen? Don't think much will change.
They said maybe it's bone inflammation?! Doesn't make sense.
Trying to get a second opinion at another breast center.

It really is! They didn't even do a breast MRI, just a regular one. I don't want keep bugging for more tests but I've got this lump that won't go away, with no answers.
