Second Call back On Mammogram and scared

I have been reading the post here for a few weeks now.  I went for my every two year mammogram last week.  Yeah, I know I cannot take the pain of the "smash" machine yearly.  My breast are always so tender and since 2007, I seem to be a prime candidate for the coe back for a second look club and then we want to biopsy that spot.  I did appreciate that in 2009, they left markers so they could tell were they had been before in my left breast.  I have never been told of anything being wrong with my right breast until this time.  Well, I got a call back on the digital mammogram as expected.  They took two pictures of the left and one of the right.  Two days later, my doctor called me and told me I needed to go back for an additional view.  I expected that too.  They scheduled for the following week which was cool, so I only had to have one week of anxiety.  My doctor explained she always gets called back and from the report, it was nothing to be concerned about.  I went yesterday, got smashed twice and asked to sit down and wait.  I was totally surprised when they only wanted to do the right breast.  I waited and the tech came back and said an ultra sound was needed.  She had no problem finding the spot and I strained to see the little round spot she was focussing on.  When the radiologist came in and began looking, he immediately said these are just cyst and we do not usually do anything about them.  He said that he would have me come back in 6 months to check them again.  I asked, them, I only see this one.  He then moved the wand around to about 9am looking for the other spot and then he got quiet, keeping changing the screen resolutions and talking to the tech and his partner.  He went all aound the area several times.  Finally, he stepped back from the machine and said he wanted me to come back in 6 months to keep an eye on the cyst, but felt the area he found that had not been detected by the mammogram was suspicious and needed a biopsy.  He said although it would probably be nothing to worry about, he wanted the ultra sound assisted core biopsy next week.  Then he just left.  I was horrified, scared, and sort of in shock as I dressed and the scheduler said she had an opening for next Wednesday.  Today I called my doctor asked for a copy of the results.  She began by saying oh they just want to take a biopsy on the cyst and it should be fine.  I told her that he said he wasnt going to do anything with the cyst and so she kept reading the report and I heard her voice change as she read that the are at 9am which was 7mm and appearing connected to the ductal system, solid mass with what appeared to have non connected cyst.  I cannot remember what the elongated length of the suspicios mass.  I asked her if this was something to be worried about and she said well, lets just wait and see.  She said it is suspicious and the concerning part is that it appears to have connections to the ductal system.  I thanked her knowing that I could not wait to log into to this forum and ask for suggestions,...help, I am scared.

I'm a new member and don't know what I am doing but this topic is similar to the one that concerns me in that I had my annual mammogram done a couple of weeks ago and I got the call that I needed to do a second mammogram and US.  Went last Friday and had this done and was told by the radiologist that I had 3 cysts -- 2 were simple and 1 is septated (sp?) and to schedule another US in 6 months.  That's it?!!  What should be my next step?  I haven't a clue.  Thanks for any help.

I've been having routine/annual mammograms for about 15 years now. Every one has been nothing more than an inconvenience, some stress while I wait for the results and a letter saying that the results are negative, thanks for playin', see you next year.

Yesterday, I had my 2012 mammogram. Today, the imaging center called me and, in typical information-less fashion, told me that 'a couple' of the images need to be 'repeated'. The scheduled me to come back Monday at a time when the radiologist is on site and can read the films and give me results right then and there.

How stressed should I be? I know that I am going to be majorly stressed, no matter what...I just want to know if my stress is warranted or if this is something routine.

I am 44 and just had my first "call back" after a routine mammogram. I was told that the images of my right breast didn't match the last set of images. From reading these entries I see that it's "usually" nothing, thought that's not calming me down completely. I'm still nervous. The follow-up appointment is tomorrow morning.

I assume I'll have another waiting period after the appointment before I find out if there's really anything to worry about. It sounds like most people here have more images and/or an ultrasound when they are called back.

So many people in my life have been diagnosed (or re-diagnosed) with cancer in the last 2 weeks. I really hope I'm not joining them...

I too had a call back. I was told there were changes in the right breast.

We started with the mammogram, every which way you could imagine, she kept looking at one picture to the other and sort of frowning. I asked, is this all we gotta do today? She said, "it depends". Then she said she would let the doc look at the pics and she would be back.

 

She came back, doc says ultra sound. So, that time came, with gel smeared everywhere, she went all over the right breast, but a couple places she homed on in. The left, she just briefly checked that same area for comparison. She went to get the doc.

 

The doc comes in.....good news........just a few harmless nodules, things everyone carries around. Go anywhere I want for my next mammogram.

 

Like they said, most are benign findings. Good luck.

Thanks Bev...it turned out great! It was some calcifications in my right breast. They took about 6 more images & then told me I was OK & could go. :) Whew!!!

KOninja, so glad you got a good report! And sicily, I hope you have read through this thread about callbacks. I've lost many dear friends to this disease, as well. It does make you uncomfortable, doesn't it? I remember my best friend telling me, when she was diagnosed, that when I had been diagnosed a couple of years before her, she hadn't known you could actually die of this! Unfortunately, she lost her battle seven years later.

I went in for a 2nd mammogram yesterday and an ultrasound. Everything was fine, it was just something with the compression of the breast tissue that looked different from last year. I'm 46 and have been getting mammograms since age 40 but this was my first call back. I was fortunate enough to have been able to get my appointment within a week of the phone call but it was still 5 days of stress and worry. I think it is impossible not to worry and imagine the worst. I still feel stressed from worrying so much. It did help me to read everyone's stories, so I just thought I'd post another positive report for a call back.

Hi, I'm new here. Had my screening mammo on Tuesday and got a call today (just when I thought I was out of the woods!) for a diagnostic mammo on Wednesday (it would have to be labor day weekend which I had been planning to enjoy.) Apparently there is an area that is denser than it was last year...or something like that. It was hard to focus on what the woman was telling me. Unfortunately the main breast center, where I have to go for the diagnositic mammo, is located in the middle of the cancer center! On a positive note, they have what they call "rapid results" so if I need further testing, it can be done right away. Hoping it's nothing. Odds are in my favor, but my brain refuses to believe that.

Krissis, I wouldn't worry unless your doctor tells you to. The techs know a certain amount from having been on the job, but they don't know everything. It's probably nothing.

I posted above about going back for a diagnostic mammogram. They took me right in on time which I appreciated. I was expecting them to take multiple views, but they didn't. The tech explained to me that from the top to bottom view on my mammo, they saw something they couldn't identify. I don't know why the woman who called me went on and on about density increase on one side, etc. They did a core compression which is compression of only one small area. Ouch. She really clamped down but it was over in seconds. I was told to go into the "interior" waiting room (where you sit in your little gown) and the doctor would come out and talk to me. Barely five minutes later the nurse came out and said everything was fine. Whatever had shown up on the first mammo was regular tissue that might have been compressed in a funny way. The view she took showed everything was normal. Of course I made a fool of myself thanking her profusely and telling her what a great job she'd done!

I will now forever be very regular about getting mammos (I was playing a little fast and loose for awhile there) because earlier is better and who knows if I might have a problem down the road.

Funny thing is we went for a drink afterwards and saw a couple who had been in the waiting room at the same time as me and hubby. We recognized each other and she gave me a thumbs up so obviously her test came out fine, too.

In 2010 I had my call back and did the needle biobsy. The lab technician lost my results and i had to redo it . I tried to be nice about it...with great success. The results were ok. it was just a fat mass. Now, today I got a recall and I'm expecting its the same breast and the same results. I still feel abit worried and just reading this post help.
