I'm 37 years old female. Last week I went for a normal checkup, and my doctor ended up giving me a breast exam. Well the doctor scared me when she said she felt something on my right breast and she is ordering me my first mammogram. That was this past Thursday. Today I get a phone call from the imaging center saying that I need to come in for a ultrasound on my left breast. They found a mass that they need to look at. I'm a nervous wreck. It wasn't anything on the right breast that the doctor felt but not it's my left. I'm so scared of cancer. I have two small children. I have no clue how to call myself. Crying and just a mess. My ultrasound is this Thursday.

Hi Nervous, I certainly understand your fears, any time something comes back the drs questions terrifies us. Many times these turn out to not be cancer so please try to remember that. I applaud your dr for taking swift action to get you checked out. In the mean time, please do not try to think the worst case scenario.

I keep thinking the worst things. I don't want to die. I want to grow old with my husband and kids. I have no clue how to function right now.

Nervous, I understand. One thing I can tell you is fewer women are dying of breast cancer because the treatment is so far advanced now. But, keep in mind you have not been diagnosed with breast cancer. I have no doubt that you will see yourself grow old with your husband & kids.

Best of luck today. I am so sorry you're going through this. I hope it is nothing, but it's better to have it checked out and treat it now if necessary. You will be okay. I know all of our minds always go to the worst case, but so many people live full lives even when faced with all sorts of circumstances. Please take care of yourself & speak with a professional if you need support.

So my doctor called and sonogram showed a probably a benign nodule. That I will have another mammogram in 6months to recheck. I'm not sure how I feel about "probably". What is a nodule. Is this good?

I don't normally post here so I am not sure, but I am so happy to hear it's benign. That's fantastic. I hope someone can elaborate on nodule.

A breast nodule is basically a lump that forms in a person’s breast tissue. The vast majority of breast lumps are not cancerous and are referred to as benign.
