I love statistics, don't you. I became a statistic when the surgeon told my mother I had about nine months to live. I became another statistic when they told me I had only a 20% chance of surviving 5 years. Then, the most recent statistic gave me only a 10% chance to survive to ten years.

Ten years went by and I even forgot it was on Jan 19. So, now I am officially a ten-year survivor and a six-year survivor. There were some rough roads along the way but as my late Mitchell said, "Someone needs to be in the winning percentile and there's no reason it can't be you".

I have had 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild during these ten years. They do give you a reason to fight.

So, the next time you see "statistics", think about them and then discard them. The people making them up don't know the magic of this board.

You are my kind of statistic. I try to never pay attention to that stuff. We are our own stats. Congratulations on 10/6. The rough rodes make us more human and loveable. I do love you and I am so glad you are a friend.

Congrats, Jo-Ann. I don't even ask for statistics because I think they're a load of s*(*t. You are living proof of that.

You enjoy those grandbabies & great-grandbabies! You've earned it....

I always did love a success story and you are one of them. It goes to show that when it comes to cancer there is no definitive amount of time. Thanks for sharing.

Just love hearing this. I know how I felt when they told me I had about 10% chance. Isn't it nice to fool them. I had three grandchildren and one on the way when I was diagnosed. I had my surgery the day after the baby shower for Liana. Leslie's first. Now she is about to have her third. My surgeon still shakes his head and I know you will love this. His exact words.....Better to be lucky than smart. Does he know how to break my wagon or what? Hard to argue with the truth. Lady I want you to know I celebrate with you everyday. I only wish that your Mitchell was here to celebrate with you. Thanks, Jo-Ann for a great positive post!!! I agree with Ellen this one needs to be bumped up over and over. Since we are having a cave day I know you are feeling good and relaxed and hope you stay that way. Yes, everyone, we finally have some rain in our part of Texas. We show a 1 1/2 inches in our gauge. And now the sun has peeked through the clouds for a little bit. I don't expect it to stay but it is nice to see for a little while midst all the grey. Congratulations on reaching this milestone, Jo-Ann. Just goes to show what happens when you just keep putting one foot in front of the other and refusing to give up. May you have many more years with those grandchildren and great-grand. Happy hugs for you, my friend, Lauri

Thanks for posting Jo-Ann. I had been feeling very upset lately- I went to the Imaginis website, and they state that if you have a grade 3 tumor, you only have a 50% chance of hitting the 5 year mark. Great. So all those negative thoughts start to swirl.
It's so nice to hear such positive news! Congratulations!! Here's to many many more anniversaries!

Dear Jo-Ann,

Congratulations dear friend on your 10/6 anniversary. Isn't it nice proving those doctors wrong? I am so glad that you have been able to see those little grandchildren and that special little great grandchild.

Kind of ironic..........I am sitting here watching country videos (you know that I love music) and Garth Brooks "The Dance" is playing as I write this. To quote from the song "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance". WOW, what powerful words..............and they fit right in here at this haven for our us and our fellow breast friends.

Keep those years adding up and love every minute spending time with those loved ones. (sure wish that you could be sharing all of the joy with Mitchell..........actually, I know that he IS enjoying them with you too!!)

Love those statistic busters! Someone has to be in that winning 10%, why NOT you? Love Mitchell's quote....

COngratulations on 10 year, you GO girl! And congrats on shattering all those darn gloomy stats....
We've had a cave momth here, and just love to celebrate good news!
