Ouestion regarding biopsy

In an earlier post, I wrote that my mother in law had a mammogram, then a ultra sound and breast biopsy.  They told her it was cancer the same day she had the biopsy.  I thought biopsy's had to be sent out before results were definite....can someone explain..she had a needle biopsy, I think it was a cone biopsy

Dorri, welcome to the world of all hospitals are not created equal. If you get a mammo out here you wait for a week to find out how it is. When ever Dr. Joe Blow comes in and reads them and is not talking to sales men he will get around to looking at them. Path reports have to be sent out. In town I had a fine needle biopsy and received a call at 6:00 telling me I had cancer. When I get my mammo in town, its a whole different world. They put them up and show you everything and talk about it. Out here if you want to see them you have to ask for them to take home. I found it worth the drive to get answers right away. Good or bad, no one should have to wait for that shoe to drop for a week. I am so sorry about your MIL. She must be a wonderful person if her DIL cares this much. Hugs Joyce

My daughter was told immediately after the needle biopsy. The dr that did hers had a breast clinic and all he did was mammos and diagnostics. He came back to tell her it was cancer with tears in his eyes. He said it had been a really rough day, too many new bc diagnoses. Sadly he had to close down his operation because so many insurance companies and Medicare dictated the price they would pay and he could not afford the overhead and insurance. I went there a couple of times for my mammogram and he personally talked to those of us who had been diagnosed and told us the results right away. I loved it. I think he moved to a smaller town with a group. What a loss for us. Hugs MK
