OK, we know DH doesn't think he should have a mortgage because he doesnt want to be enslaved to a house. We also know that he's loving living rent free in the cigar box we live in with a 17-year old and a 6-year old ("we got it good here"). We also know he thinks that all the sellers are nuts because he knows those $300,000 homes were bought for 100,000 ten years ago, so of course they are insane and I'm not paying for.....
I've been wanting to get a house since Matthew got out of the crib. That was the original plan--that I would support the house, mostly, because of my career. When I got cancer, well, the plan got delayed, because I had not graduated and therefore couldn't get a house without tapping him. So, when Mat was out of the crib in our living room, we made a room for him in a wierd place (downstairs, out of the apartment, off the front hallway, right next to the front door (think that little girl who got abducted in Florida)), and it's a totally wierd layout now. Three years later, time comes I wanted a house and since I was almost finished with the degree, it was time to look for a job and a place to hang my shingle. In comes Maine. The federal program that will pay my loans off is advertizing a job in coastal Maine. I interview last October and get the job. I seriously considered moving us to Maine for a great salary and school vacations and summers off (but also to get a affordable house on the water). I even get him to ask his #1 client if he would still use him if he was located in maine, and Of course he would because DH is the Best, but DH wasn't going to let that happen, refusing to support the idea and not considering moving. Well, I figured, ok, I'll stay, but I'm getting a house. I'm about to open up an office next to my son's room, when in comes the 17-year old teenager to live with us. OK, now we're four in a four room situation in a wierd layout. He must have thought I had forgotten about the house I wanted, but I fixed up my credit, and started looking in January. He has been mad ever since. He has been putting every wrench in my plans since the get-go to get a house. First he'd only use his equity or sell his shop for the right house with a shop on the property. First house had a great shop, but house was too far gone. Second house was too expensive, and he's not willing to help with equity from his all-paid-for building, then he seems to re-neg on having said he'd sell the shop at all. Then I find a great, fancy house on an acre, and Uncle Mat says he'll match whatever Bob's folks give us up to $50,000 (that's potentially 100,000 given to us), even though he's also annoyed that Bob won't contribute his asset. Bob was not willing to ask his folks for help and then when he thought I might just find a way, he found things wrong with that house. OK, so I find another one, better school district, with room to build a shop, but more expensive. Figure I'm going to push him about selling the shop once and for all, I've had enough. He freaks. He says it's too expensive and maybe he doesn't want to invest in The Catskills, MAYBE HE WANTS TO MOVE TO MAINE (and that, your honor, is how the frying pan met with his head) He really freaked out when that night, the mail produced a letter from that job in Maine, re-offering the position. The timing was too good to be true LOL. (not going, too far from grandparents). But, Oh, the sweetness of that timing. He was really worried there for a few.
Well, the time has come that we can get one, with or without his asset. Uncle Mat is offering me a mortgage at an amazing rate. DH is finally starting to accept it. After I made him look at the home in the good school district, he said it was too small and we should get what we want if we're going to do this (is the ice melting??) Then he says HE saw a house and had actually made a phone call about it and if you want, I'll take you by to look at it. What are you, Kidding????? Unbelieveable.
It looks really nice, and we're going to look at it with realtors on Friday... I've invited the realtor I've been torturing for a few years into the deal. I can't imagine not, considering the work she's put into me.
Then he's going ice fishing up in the Adirondacks. Think that Ice is thin??????? Just a little push........
I think I'll be away for a while......... They lock up at 11:00, but I can have visitors until then..............
