Hello from underwater
There be flooding!!!
People are being evacuated all around us. We're on a mountain, so we're ok. Dear Dear friend and neighbor Diane's brother, about 20 miles north of us was evacuated (last check 3ft water in basement) and was not allowed in the shelter because he had a dog and "there are too many dogs, you can't come in." He spent the night in his truck as did another family who didn't want to leave their pooch. She hasn't heard from him, but thinks all is ok. Her DH, Freddy is a vol. Fireman and they are all on the job. She was up all night and was checking outside to catch me before I went to work. She missed me leaving so she called my cell when I was on the next block and urged me to stay home. I wasn't going to work, they had closed the clinic, but was taking Matthew to the bus for camp..... She's hopefully sleeping now. She's such a worrier!!!
My clinic, on the other hand, is probably underwater by now. Those of us living south, off Rt. 17 left in a caravan yesterday around lunchtime, trying to beat the closing of the bridges and roads. You should have seen us getting out while the getting was good. The police had said that roads were already closed and were wrong (AGAIN). I have had experience with their misinformation, so I did the smart thing and called the country store in the next valley, asking if people were getting through to be sure we could get to the next mountain and home. It was open, so we all left in a chain with everything but CB's. After Cat Hollow Mt., I went south and the others went north. They were just in time, too. They closed the highway north of that point just a short time later. I would've had houseguests if we were just an hour later, I think (I really SHOULD clean). Sherry, the woman in the office next to mine (who has the terminal lung condition, I've asked for prayers for her before) had a doctor's appt. this morning and knowing her husband, he would've had a helicoptor coming for her if we had been stranded. This guy is too much. fresh flowers in her office ALL THE TIME. Pray for all if you get a chance.
ANYWAY, Matthew and I now have a day off (camp's flooded too) and all I know are safe and sound. So I'm gonna just be domestic, pack for our planned long weekend of camping on the beach on Long Island (if there is a beach left).
and read posts.
