Got Pathology report ????

Hi guys,

Need help understanding report, A., infiltrating duct carcinoma, moderately differentiated, grade II (SBR 6 of 9)

B., Ductal carcinoma in-situ, high grade, with comedonecrosis and microcalcifications.

Dr. Susan Love's Breast book has a great section on understanding the path report. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma is the kind of breast cancer, most are considered infiltrating or invasive ductal carcinoma..it began in the duct and broke out. Grade II is better than Grade III (mine was III). THat describes how the cells differ from normal cells. The higher the grade, the more differentiated, or mutated they are. it looks like they also found another area that was DCIS, that it had not yet broken out of the duct. High grade means it was moving quickly as the cells were highly differentiated. I am not sure what comedonecrosis means...I think it has to do with cell death and the rate of change.

Make copies of everything and ask your doctor even the smallest question!

Hi Patti,

I agree with the previous posts that you should read Dr. Susan Love's book. Great resources. I will tell you that your dx is very similar to what mine was. Feb. 05 I found out I had bc, had a lumpectomy which the pathology report showed invasive ductal carcinoma and also ductal carcinoma in situ. My surgeon explained that the DCIS had broken out in one place and had become the invasive part, but the rest of my breast happened to be filled with DCIS. There wasn't much possibility of getting all of the margins clean, and I had already made up my mind to have a mastectomy and chose to go bilateral. Never have regretted it at all!

I was 40 at dx, highly er+ and pr+. Any questions, I'd be glad to answer. Remember, everyone's cancer is different, and we all choose and respond to treatments differently. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Hang in there!!!!!!
