Hi all,
I'm new as of this minute. I have just completed 4 chemo treatments of FEC and 4 of Taxotere. There is a supplement powder called L-Glutamine that does wonders to reduce if not eliminate the debilitating pain from the Taxotere. The nurses in the chemo clinic suggested it to me - they recommend it to the patients on Taxol. We found a large container for a very reasonable price at a store that supplies athletes, as this is a product they use for extreme exercise. The regular daily dose is 1 tsp dissolved in any hot liquid. I took this for the entire interval between chemo treatments and on the day before chemo started on the 'Taxotere regime' which was 2 tsp three times a day for 4 days. My pain was cut by 90% and I needed maybe one Advil a day for two days. My first experience with the Taxotere knocked me to my knees for 3 days!
I found that the Taxotere was cumulative over the 4 treatments - each time took longer for the side effects to subside. The last one was the worst (of course!). Numbness and tingling in the fingers and feet, fluid retention, furry tongue and I even ended up with shingles when my white count was down!
I am booked for mastectomy next week and then radiation. Anyone else do it in this order? Any advice?
