Hello ladies  :-)   I usually hang out in the Ulcerative Colitis forum but I have a question and I sincerely hope you don't mind if I ask it here?  I wasn't too sure where else to post this (if anywhere).  I don't have breast cancer though I did have quite the scare about a month ago when I found a lump in my right breast.  I went to the doctor and she said that the lump was just a cyst, drained it, send it out to the lab and everything came out benign.  I then had a mammogram and ultrasound and found that my breasts were riddled with cysts which I heard is not so uncommon as I first thought.  But it does explain why my breasts are so tender half the time and especially around my time of month.  So my question is, if any knows, is there a bra out there that is "easier" on the breast?  I find that by the end of the day my breasts ache something fierce and I think it has something to do with my bra.  Right now I have a no wire bra so are wired bras better?  I'm not very large chested so it's not like I need major support.  Thank you for any answers!  :-)

Hello! I don't know if this could have anything to do with the tenderness or not, but if my daughter drinks very much caffiene her breast REALLY get achey and tender. Do you drink alot of coffee or coke etc? I am glad to hear your dr made sure that was a cyst by draining it and having it tested. So many drs just write things off as cysts and leave it at that.

Hi, Red. I had very painful fibrocystic breasts when I was younger. A friend of mine actually went so far as to have a double mastectomy with implant reconstruction because of her painful breasts...she didn't have cancer, she was just miserable all the time.

I found that my pain cycled with my periods. I tried the no caffeine, no sugar, no anything...and you are probably already doing that because of the UC??? Anyway, menopause totally cured the problem for me! At least in the one breast that I had left after the cancer.

I found sports bras to be the most comfortable for me. The less jiggle, the less pain, and you can buy sports bras that really allow very little jiggle. I thought the compression helped some, too. I found underwires to be very uncomfortable, and I only wore them when the "vanity factor" was in play... hot dates (like I remember what one of those is!), formal events, etc...In other words, the underwire kind of went with the pantyhose and high heels! I don't wear too much of those anymore, either! LOL

Thank you for the replies :) Yes actually I do drink caffeine......gotta have that morning coffee! But that's about it. I usually have about 4 cups in the morning and drink water for rest of the day. I don't consume much sugar either; would that have an effect on breast cysts as well as caffeine? Of course I have the occasional sweet but not too much. The one cyst that brought me to the docs in the first place went from nothing to golf ball size in a month, the doc drained it but unfortunately it's coming back. And it sends sharp shooting pains all over the breast. I may have to go see her again but I've been sort of putting it off because I am sooooooo sick of seeing the doc! lol

Thanks for the tip about the sports bra. I usually avoided them because like I said, I'm not very big breasted and it seems that the sports bra "squish" me down to nothing! Vanity issue I guess but I may have to break down and get one. A double mastectomy huh? Wow they really must've been hurting her! Pretty drastic but I guess if your in pain all the time, then it seems reasonable.

I had some real trouble with all the bras I had before when I was in pain after surgery and I went to Victoria's Secret and explained to the nice lady there and asked for help.

She was so nice and the bra she suggested was perfect for me.   The brand is IPEX and I got a nice wireless one that is so comfortable I can even wear it while sleeping when the breast pain gets to me.

I highly recommend this bra.

Bras are a big issue after reconstruction, too.  I still have not found one that's comfortable.  I'm not wearing one anymore, since my good booby was lifted.  LOL  I just wear camisoles underneath.  Although, I am noticing more jiggle in the lifted one.  The problem I found with bras is the reconstructed one doesn't conform much to the cup, so there's a gap and I refuse to wear a partial prosthesis.  Why go through a major surgery to still wear one of those???  I went to a specialty shop and that's what the lady told me.  I was so upset I cried.  I keep hearing that most women wear the wrong size.  Macy's has a new service for bra fitting.  Several other major stores have this, too.  You might try that.  Good luck.
