 I think I may have cfs. I have a sleep study in 3 weeks. I find that I am excessively thirsty. Is anyone else like this??

stutterbug, I'm not a doctor, but I do know that thirst and dry mouth are symptoms of several diseases. I'm not sure what your other symptoms are. For me, I am thirsty a lot because I have Sjogren's and because some of the meds I take cause dry mouth. I have also read that excessive thrist can be present in diabetes. I'm glad you are getting a sleep study - hopefully you might get some answers.

Hi i sometimes get really thirsty and i have been told that this is because of an associated illness called P.O.T.S ( postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). I feel like i have heart palpitations and stuff and have been told that i only feel them as bad as i do because of the me and fibromyalgia so it may be worth mentioning this to your doctor. Hope this helps :P

I get thirsty when I'm working around the house or any other exertion and keep taking sips of water between little chores.

I Have chronic thirst and discovered that it is due to Lyme and Mold neurotoxins. My Antidiuretic hormone is low and I have to take a synthetic form until I heal from lyme disease. Please check out chronicneurotoxins.com and see what dr. Shoemaker has to say about chronic fatigue and it's causes.

i have CFS (among other things) and am overly thirsty, all the time.

I always have a dry mouth so I carry a drink with me pretty much everywhere.  I have Fibro & that can cause a dry mouth I am told.  hugs, Denise

Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia are usually on illnesses but symptoms of chronic infections or mold exposure. Please check out chronicneurotoxins.com and moldwarriors.com. Thirst and excessive urination are classic symptoms due to reduce pituitary fuction or the inability for the kidneys to use adh and conserve water. Until you heal from the real cause of the infection or exposure you can take a drug called DDAVP desmopressin which is a synthetic form of adh-antidiuretic hormone. It has saved my life. You may need to pump your body full of electrolytes. What ever disease process is going on (such as POTS, as an example), it is probably making you dehydrated. I used to have a thirst that could never be quenched, even with lots of water drinking.

A 1/4 tsp of natural sea salt dissolved in water can give an energy boost and relieve dehydration (salt is an electrolyte) (warning: use caution if you have high blood pressure or are a salt-sensitive individual.....consult your doctor......but many in the population are okay with doing this however....still consult your doc)

Or, if you don't want to go the salt route, I like this product, called ElectroMix: http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=3409&at=0

It's an electrolyte mix, and I use it in higher concentrations than what the package recommends. I also like the "Lite" EmergenC, which contains electrolytes as well.

People w/CFS need to drink 2-3 times the amount of water as normal people. I am constantly thirsty and that's because you really are dehydrated due to adrenal gland dysfunction. Dr. Teitelbaum suggests getting on low levels of cortisole to help. This has definitely helped but I still feel pretty darn thirsty most of the time! We have water cups all around our house. =)
