chest pain/ GI stuff anyone?

I joined the forum in the Lyne Disease section, because that's what I probably have. But after reading these posts, I sound so much like all of you! I am curious...do any of you get chest pain that goes into your left arm, which has not been diagnosed as cardiac? How about GI issues (like inflammatory bowel disease)? How about muscle pain to the touch, but not just sitting there? Rib cage pain? Left upper and central abdominal pain? Ok exercise tolerance some days but not others?

You can have CD in your esophagus with spasms..I had a problem with this several years ago..I had my heart checked a couple of times, and I felt kind of dumb with it just being this DD..

Sorry, what is CD? What is DD?
Three times my esophagus has cramped, not spasmed and it lated for about 1 1/2 hours. It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Why is this happening and can it be prevented?

I never had chest pain, my heart rate would race. I was checked out by the Mayo Clinic. The cardiologist said it's my condition there is nothing wrong with my heart. At times I have no appetite, then I am starving. All of my problems are in the throat neck area. I have had 4 biopsies already.

I have GI and cardiac symptoms (but no heart problems, per say). I have a history of heart palpitations. I've done the Holter monitor and had two cardiac ultrasounds. They've mostly gone away--very strange though because I've never suffered from anxienty, depression, etc. When my so-called CFS started a year ago, I actually presented to the hospital with a really low heart rate, and this has continued every time I have a flare up. I get a lot of 'heavy' feelings in my chest and I also have lots of weakness and occasional pain in my arm, especially my left arm.

And GI symptoms? Yes, indeed. I have bouts of intermittent diarrhea, nausea, and inappetance. When I have a flare up I have diarrhea daily and am unable to eat. My last flare up was in February/March and I lost 10 pounds. I've had an upper GI and colonoscopy and everything was normal. I did have an old peptic ulcer, but it was healed at the time of the endoscopy.

I've been tested for Lyme's but it was negative...

I too have had chest pain issues but I think it is due to spasm in gastrointestinal tract. I've had a lot of the gastro issues, which is where my infection began. Exercise intolerance varies, not the same. From total collapse to slightly achy and fatigued and everything in-between. Some days I can do more, other days hardly anything without the inevitable post-exercise crash.

Weather is a factor, diet is also a trigger.
Sleep is huge ...

since I had my gallbladder out I have done great for 9 years, when before I would have horrible pain in chest wall and sternum and clear thru to back. Doctor said that the muscles in my ribcage would spasm. My youngest sister was having same problem. She had her gallbladder out and is doing great. We shared symptoms, along with certain foods that would set off an attack. I want you to keep fallowing with your problems. It sure is worth talking to your doctor about. I checked it out, as did my sister. We both, sis and I, went into emergency room with a gallstone lodged. Mine was lodged just beneath my breast bone (sternum). The change in me was like a miracle, when before it was a nitemare dealing with bathroom issues. Never knowing when an attack would happen. Does that sound familiar to you. You must never just ignore those spells, as you never know, it might be very serious. Good luck.....Cathy

Hello,This is my first post on this condition. I suffered from severe chest pain the first time when my children were toddlers so I was quite young. I was admitted to a hospital for possible MI (miocardial infarction aka heart attack). All tests were negative. This happened so many times over the next 15 years that I was in a psych hospital several times. Of course back then they said "it's all in your head" aka psycho-somatic.  I had every test known to man in many major US medical centers and the ones for esophageal spasms were always positive. My esophagus was clamping down so hard the lines went off the chart. Was also always told "eitology unknown"; which means they didn't know what caused the spasms. This went on for years. The only good thing about all the testing was that I knew I wasn't having a heart attack. They almost killed me with some meds I took back then. The only one that actually helped was valium. It's a smooth muscle relaxant and the esophagus is a smooth muscle. (I'm a retired RN) I could have become addicted to all the drugs and valium they gave me, but fortunately for me my brain doesn't become addicted and I suppose I don't have an addictive personality. I was so depressed so often because of the unrelenting pain in my chest that I was suicidal. It is now believed that esphageal spasms can be caused by stress. I don't know if there's ever been any proof, but with a lot of psychotherapy and learning relaxation exercises I didn't have "attacks" as often and eventually only rarely. However, in 1997 when I had multiple surgeries on my larynx I was told I had a lot of reflux or gerd and that could have caused the spasms. Most people with esophageal spasms and reflux also have a hiatial hernia and so of course I also have that and must drink something after each bite of food so it won't stick. I could go on and on and on. The message in all of this for me was that, yes, stress can cause pain, but there are also many other factors and if you ask a dozen doctors you might get a dozen different answers. Gerd and the spasms were also just two of the symptoms of FM and Chronic fatigue symdrome I developed 6 years ago. It's almost like; which came first, the chicken or the egg? As I sit here and write I'm having Gerd pain because my stomach is getting too empty so I should eat now. I can't take the drugs for gerd so I must take care of it as best I can. As for GI disease; if there's a GI symptom I haven't had I've never heard of it. My symptoms start with my burning mouth symdrome all the way through my esophagus, stomach, small and large entestines. I do better now for the most part, but only because I refused to accept that there was no diagnosis and there was nothing anyone could do for me. If not for insurance I'd be totally broke living on the streets, so I have a lot to be grateful for also. Pain can be debilitating both physically and psychologically, but I'm a survivor and so is everyone else on this site. My husband tells people that doctors have tried to kill me and I just won't die. LOL Of course it wasn't funny when he was sitting at my bedside in the hospital for days and weeks at at time. Thank you all for posting on this site. I've searched for years for a site like this.
