Intravenous saline infusions for no other reason than fatigue sounds very suspicious to me. It's useless and dangerous. This is why insurance does not cover it. Dexamethazon works as a diuretic.
What happens is this: you get intravenous saline, and to prevent complications of hypervolemia (increased blood volume), the doctor gives you dexamethasone to push the water out of your body.
You would very likely achieve the same effect by regularly drinkg water and eating regular salted foods.
This is coming from someone who is speculating benefits and dangers of treatment.
Reality is the reason insurance usually doesn't cover something is strictly demand and profit. Give me a break about
it being dangerous , look at all the medications covered that are dangerous.
It's saline....I stumbled upon this thread after questioning why after years of awful clusters of symptoms, has a simple saline iv from an ER visit seemed to facilitate relief from these awful symptoms. Mind you I'm talking about
5+ visits in one years time. The one constant treatment was saline IV and in retrospect the only thing I can say for 100% has given relief to painful skin lesions, heart and breathing problems , central nervous system, intracranial pressure, and fluid retention.
I have diagnosed thyroiditis for over 7 years now with the last 3 years being a ridiculous roller coaster ride of illness with symptoms of unknown origin all being speculated by doctors without a clue ready to prescribe handfuls of meds with no relief of symptoms.
Being so tired of feeling like a guinea pig I am very cautious about
adding meds. I have started plaquinel recently due to an exacerbation of the auto immune thyroiditis with some positive effect. It's not as simple as drinking water and ingesting table salt. I believe it's more along the lines of a "flushing" of the blood and I guess more homeostasis and maybe providing the system with sodium it is being depleted of at a molecular level that doesn't quiet give the body through oral ingestion what it is being depleted of due to chronic illness.
The main thing I have noticed with the various clusters of symptoms is listening to my body and removing toxins as well as replenishing trace minerals, cell salts and acid/alkaline balance for the individual.
Salts and sugars have been one of the strangest things throughout to realize that my body is not processing as it had been and has been creating more symptoms or worsening of others. I use Pink Himilayain SP? Salt, only reason being it has more naturally found trace minerals instead of over supplementing with individual vitamins or minerals. I also use Dr. Braggs amino acid soy sauce alternative, Apple cider vinegar supplement, activated charcoal and/or bentonite clay, Hyland's bioplasma, Liquid chlorophyll and baby aspirin. I have recently switched to stevia instead of regular sugar. These are a few things that have been positive in relief of some symptoms.
Docs usually think you are over obsessing if you take numerous supplements. I have found much needed support throughout the years going to a naturopathic doctor in addition to specialists. She taught me to look at the body in systems with basic needs that usually work well together. It's pretty much paying attention to detail with your body being the one your attempting to communicate with through what you put in it. I also added fresh garlic to salad and balsamic vinegar in addition to whatever dressing and spicier foods, Indian dishes, hot sauce, salsa.
Funny thing is I NEVER ate spicy foods before and I suffered with heart burn and gastrointestinal problems for years until I removed a lot of medications that were intended to be like band aids anyway not a cure. I began monitoring intense cravings alternating from salt to sweet as well as correlating symptoms prior to intense cravings, during and after cessation of the intense cravings.
I figured my body is having these intense cravings to get me to ingest what it needs or thinks it needs. I noticed having periods of anemia for years that being prescribed iron supplements wasn't really addressing the reason for the anemia. It was not tolerated at all last time I took it making me question wether the iron supplementation over the years was actually contributing to gastro problems and creating more symptoms because the anemia wasn't being addressed as to what the cause was instead of just blindly prescribing iron. I realized some of my symptoms could of potentially been attributed to iron toxicity. Go figure.
So not being a doctor or specialist of any kind, just an extremely frustrated wife, mother, daughter person that wanted some sort of semblance of my former life back.
I figured I will read about
basic body function in relation to depletion or over abundance (imbalance) of vitamin, mineral, hormones, etc.... any relation to symptoms I have or had and any repetitive pattern of any kind. With any illness your body's basic needs become depleted and or stops producing/working as intended for whatever the origin of illness.
Oh, I also noticed that dry eye and mouth symptoms have subsided once my body seemed to have more of a balance of supplements I listed above.
Apologies for any rambling or confusion.
