Anyone familiar with IVIG

Hello,

My doctor approved me to start IVIG treatments for Parvovirus B19, however, my insurance doesn't cover it there since he is out of network, so it is way too expensive for me. I've been looking for other places that perform IVIG that take insurance. I tried a hematologist and they won't do it since my reason doesn't fall under hematology.

I've now booked an appointment with a rheumatologist who does IVIG. But he has to approve it before I can get it of course. Rheumatology deals with immune system disorders, so do you think I would be able to get the treatments there? Or where else would I possibly be able to get it done? Anyone familiar with IVIG, please help. I am in South Eastern PA.

This is so frustrating.

I am sorry, no knowledge on this. Perhaps a second opinion from another doc.

Suggest you use the search option at the top right.. I do not know anything about it aside from reading about someone getting them & that is what I did to learn about it.

I only have time for a quick response, but I wanted to say, yes, a rheumatologist can *prescribe* IVIG treatment, but your insurance issues may not end there.

Hopefully the rheumatologist you see will have enough experience with your insurance company to know which diagnosis code(s) to use for IVIG treatment approval by your insurance company, what infusion facility to send you to, etc., which will allow you to access IVIG at in-network costs.

I wish you the best of luck, and it would be lovely if you could keep us all posted on how you gain access to IVIG and how it works for you.

My neurologist has suggested IVIG to me several times, but my rheumatologist just won't go for it.

Hello Jess,
I too am familiar with IVIG and I feel that Zebra
wrote you a good reply. I was able to get approval through
my alternative doctor because I have Medicare. You
may have another insurance carrier.
It is my understanding that also doctors of immunology
can give approval for this. I hope all goes well with
your rheumatology appointment and that everything gets
taken care of. Most of all, that you get the treatment
