Hello I am new.

I was diagnosed with CFS back in April, after a very rough Feb, my best friend died, I moved and was made redundant all in the space of a week. My symptoms got progressively worse, culminating in me having to leave work in mid June. I haven't worked since, but I am hoping to very soon.

I was sent to a physiotherapist by my GP, and she has now taken me down the path of Reverse Therapy. As she herself suffered until she had this treatment, she swears on it.

Has anyone on here had/doing Reverse Therapy? What do you think? I am still sceptical.

   Welcome to the forums.  I'm sorry you don't feel well.

I have a question for you.  Have you heard of adrenal fatigue?  Not that I'm saying it's not possible that you don't have CFS, but from what I've read most CFS is brought on by virus.  You look like you've been through a tremendous amount of stress (as I have). 

Please read through some of my posts in this forums and see if you can relate to me.

I had Glandular Fever about 5 years ago.

My specialist has said that it is a myth that CFS is brought on by a virus and thats why so many are miss diagnosed. Is this true? It seems to be a very personal opinion kind of condition.

Hi jejquade and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you have been dealing with CFS. You are right that there are all kinds of different opinions about this disease, which just makes it even more complicated to diagnose and treat. I'm sure you will also find that there are all kinds of "doctors" and products out there that claim to "cure" CFS. I would be very skeptical of most of these claims. I did go to the website you posted and looked at reverse therapy. It's hard to know whether it will work or not and I don't blame you for being skeptical. However, if your doctor referred you it might be worth a try. I hope you let us know what reverse therapy is like and how you think it is working for you. Orion is the resident expert on adrenal fatigue, so he will be able to explain it better than I will. I do wonder if a lot of people with CFS have this.

Reverse Therapy is basically treating what is called the bodymind. It is about your body sending you these symptoms as a warning that something is not right in your life. You have to write a wish list of things you want to do, and do them, but never to force yourself to do something and learn the art of saying no and asking for help. It is all down to your Hypothalamus bombarding all your glands, which is why you then get these symptoms. Its your emotional intelligence, its the same thing that gives you that adrenaline rush of fear if youare in a dark alley and you hear footsteps. It is a warning system. You need to work out what your bodymind is trying to tell you, then you can resolve what its is you are doing wrong, ie. wrong job, putting up with things etc etc.

Have you considered acupuncture? It has really helped my neck pain, as well as my sugar cravings. Acupuncture is painless, and is very relaxing... and even better, covered by insurance yeah

Its unfortunate I can't try altenate medicine. I have been off work for a few months now, and I am absolutely skint, which doesn't help my stress levels.

I just went to that link - Bodymind?? Headmind?? No wonder you're skeptical. Even if it did work i think I'd find it too annoying to persevere with...

Seriously though apparently CBT works quite well treating fatigue and Ive had great results with anti-deps so its possible it is all in our heads, or that a change in thinking can help your body recover.

I followed a 13 session course of Reverse Therapy for chronic fatigue and spent over £1000, a friend of mine in a similar situation did the same - it did not make either of us better although I showed some improvement whilst following the treatment I cannot say for sure that it was the treatment that helped me or time and nature. I would not recommend this treatment unless someone else was paying for it.

The therapy is performed one to one so you don't meet anyone else in that way. I imagine that there are certain types of chronic fatigue that can be helped by this treatment - there are plenty of testamonials on their web site, but it is not as good as they say it is. My friend and I have not recovered through RT and in fact have not recovered at all.

David, I'm glad you posted your experience. I'm sorry you aren't getting any relief from your symptoms. I went to the website and although it looked interesting, I think you have to be skeptical about some of these "cures". Plus you never know if the testimonials are actually true. THose of us with chronic illnesses have to be very wary of people who are saying they have a "cure". I'm glad you joined us David and I hope you can find some support here. Your friend is also welcome to join.

My doctor said Cognitive Behavoural Therapy can help for CFS, as can antidepressants which she put me on. Shes Australian and after a a bit of googling I discovered that theres an Australian model of CFS which describes CFS symptoms in a kind of locus whereby they overlap with some many symptoms of depression as to be indistibguishable in many areas.

Ive found the anti depressants to be very effective in treating my CFS though Im not really sure why. Its possible that a change in mood can help your body overcome the disease and that Reverse Therapy is linking with this. That doesnt mean that CBT or anti depressants wouldnt be as or more effective, and probably cheaper.
