what preceeded your chronic fatigue???

I was just wondering what caused or is thought to have caused other people chronic fatigue? was it an injury or an illness, and do you recall how long after the fatigue became chronic?? I had a flu like illness when Iwas eleven with a very high fever, and have had fatigue ongoing since then. The fatigue worsened after I was in a car accident and hurt my back and neck-maybe from the added shock?

Hi Breezee. I was hit by a car almost 2 years ago and suffered a head injury, as well as neck and back injuries. I did not have the usual viral illness that is usually associated with CFS, but the same level of debilitating fatigue.

bree, I had mono when I was 18 and was never the same after that. I felt like I never fully recovered and got tired and sick very easily. The year after I had mono I kept getting repeated cases of strep throat and flu. I was fatigued daily but had periods of debilitating fatigue. A few years after my cfs diagnosis I went into what I call a remission where I had a fairly normal life, but once in a while my body would crash. Then a little over 3 years ago I got the flu and never got better and that's when I started developing lupus symptoms and it took 2 and a half frustrating years to get that diagnosis. This is an interesting topic and I hope some other people respond to it.

  Hi breezee, I don't post much in here but I to have CFS, but mine was brought on by the chemicals that I had work with as a painter in a bodyshop. I all so have MCS, Anxiety disorder with P/A's and damage to my CNS as well as Diabetes II and all that was comformed by miny doctors and testings and in doing so the MSDS sheets comformed this as to why I'am this way today all but the Diabetes as that I got from my faimly's side

Hi Breezee,

I was diagnosed after I got Pnuemonia(sp) and just couldn't get better.  That was about 12 years ago at age 37.  I had to retire on a medical after over 19 years of service to the government.

As I look back over my 58 years I had symptoms of CFS in my teens, it escalated after the births of my two children, subsided between 32 and 50 and hit me broadside at 52. Also insomnia started at age 22, lasted until two years ago, age 56. Long time no sleep! Praise Ambien. Possibly we all suffered some youthful signs of our diseases??

I had mono when I was 14 and was also very busy with sports, band, and friends. After that I was always a little more tired than I had been as a kid, and I got into cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol to make myself feel better. I only became REALLY sick, however, after a bout of food poisoning when I was 20. My current understanding of my illness is that it was brought about by the accumulation of stress (physical and emotional), which my system was too weak to handle. In other words, I think I was predisposed to adrenal insuffiency because of my genes, but I was also too hard on my body in terms of diet, substance abuse, late nights, and internalized emotion. The fact that the food poisoning brought on full-blown CFS was, I think, only the final shock of a slow, gradual process.

I was fine until age 62. I then got a stomach flu that never ended. Since then I 've been diagnosed with microscopic (lymphocytic) colitis, chronic pelvic pain. And something else? Oh yeah, brain fog.

I definitely think mine was preceeded by anxiety and stress.  I had chronic

stress and then that led to chronic fatigue.  Although it may have been brought

on by a virus when my immune system was down DUE to stress.  

Does anyone else feel that way?

spelcheq, I was glad to read your post because sometimes I feel like I'm the only one whose CFS developed very gradually, so gradually that there was no discernible beginning. I'm 43 now, and I've been getting more and more exhausted and less able to function over the last 25 years or so.

I have extreme difficulty falling asleep, so much so that I no longer have any sleep schedule, I just sleep whenever I can. Once I'm asleep I usually sleep for a full 8 hours, sometimes more, tho I never wake up refreshed. Sometimes I'm awake for 24 or 30 hours at a time. I'm utterly exhausted but I don't feel even slightly sleepy.

My feeling is that my CFS is possibly entirely caused by my inability to get restful sleep. Over the years, the sleep deficit just gets worse and worse.

Sleep specialists don't know anything about this. They think I want to adjust my clock to be able to wake up at 8 in the morning. Frankly I couldn't care less when I wake up if only I didn't feel exhausted every minute of every day. What they suggest is so far from what I need that I feel like slapping them, honestly.

My problems started after I strained myself pulling a heavy cable.
It took me 3months to figure out that I had GERD and another 3 months for CFS. My CFS problems is mostly having running nose when I am physically active , getting tired more easily and the need to sleep more.

My CFS came on gradually without any explanation or particular trigger.
