CFS with constant sinusitus...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has constant sinus pressure, and sinusitis along with CFS? I also suffer from severe migraine/tension headaches, and fibro, arthritis, scoliosis and I have been diagnosed with facet syndrome etc... anyway I know that flu like symptoms and extreme fatigue are common, but i didn't know with others suffer from sinus issues, or if it is maybe from my migraines(honestly i think my sinus pain causes my migraines alot) I really hate to take an imitrex injection for a sinus caused headache, I think it is wasting my shots. I take mucinex, and tylenol, for the pain but it doesnt' seem to do anything at all. can anyone tell me if they have the same problems and what u take to control the pain. I get pain in my face, behind eyes and then my whole head eventually hurts and it off to bed for me with 2 klonepin so i can sleep off the pain, which doesn't always work. Any suggestions would be very appreciated

Danielle-I don't have CFS but have suffered from sinusitis and also get migraines and used to take Imitrex but now take fast acting Maxalt 10mg wafers. For the sinus problems I saw a ENT Dr. and had surgery for a deviated septum then again a few years later to drain sinuses and remove scar tissue. Hopefully your Dr. will order a sinus x-ray and CT and see if the sinus problems are related to allergies or sinus infections. I hope you get some relief. Sara

I do have the sinus issues with my CFIDS. In fact, that is the first symptom to flare ... sinus pressure, aching eyes, then aching head, feeling feverish, then aching all over, malaise, fatigue ...
I HATE the sinus stuff, and every weather change produces it, exercising too much, lack of sleep, you name it -- everything brings it on.

And I do not have classic allergies.

Something you might want to look up is "mastocytosis" and "mast cell activation syndrome."
This might offer some explanation.
I am looking into this myself.

Hi Sarula,
I have the same struggle and had terrible reactions to the antibiotics for all those sinus infections. I now manage them with daily nasal irrigation from Neilmed, a nasal spray and I use a personal steamer from the drugstore. I also found acupuncture to be quite helpful.

Hi Danielle,

I've had chronic sinusitis and CF and really struggled with the sinus infections. My sinuses were completely blocked and I tried a strong double course of antibiotics, nasal spray and prednisone. Twice I tried this and whilst it helped initially, the sinuses eventually became blocked again. I eventually saw an ENT and had surgery last August. My sinuses are generally clear, I don't have mucus running down the back of my throat or waking up with the feeling that I'm about to choke because the mucus has become stuck in my throat whilst I've been sleeping. Due to Fibrofog I can't think of the correct term so forgive the terms I'm going to use - I now have "boogers" which means the "snot" is heading into my nose instead of down the back of my throat. I also have reduced the pain around the sinuses greatly and the migraine type headaches are very very infrequent. For me, the surgery has been a success and one less thing I have to worry about now. Before the surgery, my Dr kept recommending I use a nasal wash every day and a nasal spray to clear the sinuses. I was not disciplined enough to do this but I've heard it's very important for sinus trouble.

Yes, definite sinus problems. I also find daily sinus rinsing (neilmed) to help.
