My daughter had mono - and tested for EBV (causes mono) which she will have her entire life and she will NOT go and test when she is extremely fatigued. We go online to direct labs and choose what lab tests we need then on to quest or lab corp for draw and within the week the results are in our online mailbox! So convenient.
I hope your granddaughter is making sure to repair her gut damage from the antibiotics! A really good pre/probiotic in goat yogurt (really low sugar -- plain!) will help. As well as fermented foods like kraut, kim chi, etc. Gut health is crucial to healing. Antibiotics just wipe the good flora out.
Goat yogurt is very kind to tummies/digestion. NO SUGAR. The yogurt on the market is not good for anyone. I shake my head at the ads on tv. So much suger! Feeds candida strains to make matters worse. I am trying a make yourself yogurt with raw dairy.
I don't understand why EBV didn't come up? This is what caused the mono. And as I said, she can have symptoms on and off. Re-infection.
Instead of the gut killing antibiotics - which in many cases do NOTHING and one can build a resistance instantly or an allergic reaction -- we do alot of liposomal vitamin c. High amounts. One must be careful to be aware how much they are taking for bowel tolerance begins somewhere at 3 -4 grams. I can stay at 4 grams. I put the powder in caps, or buy the type that is in caps already.
We also do garlic cloves at dinner. Smash, then onto bread with butter. They are HOT! But by morning no garlic breath.
I have never heard of draining glands. Sorry. Knees, yes.
Hope she is getting real restful sleep. Very dark and quiet room. Take computer, tv, cell and turn off. Maybe chamomile tincture in water to drink an hour or two before sleep? Calming.
I had walking pneumonia as a child...but nothing remarkable to recall. I believe it was right after measles! The old days when our immune systems were allowed to do what they are supposed to!
Does the swelling appear all day or different times? Is she elevating and cool/warm compresses? Arnica Montana applied helps a great deal. I would be very cautious with giving any type of aspirin or acetaminophene/ibuprofen--only if really necessary. I think my kidney problems are due to acetaminophene use. Can't prove. Just a nagging feeling. I didn't know it was very damaging to kidneys.
Also - NO fragrances in room, outlets, etc. Perhaps pure lavender essential oil on pillow case can help calm. Did the doctor check her Vit D3 levels? I began giving my kids d3 with k2 during times of illness. Small amounts. Until they could get outside in the sunshine -- k2 helps deliver any stray calcium into bones/teeth where it belongs.
Green tea with stevia or small amount of honey helps with germ fighting.
I found this: Another way you can help lymph nodes drain is by gently rubbing or “milking” it toward the heart. This works quite well, for example, with sore throats or sinus congestion. By using a lubricant, you can start under the jaw and milk down the throat on each side of the big muscle on both sides of the neck.
