Sex Life after hysterectomy

I had had a hysterectomy to remove my uterus and my left ovary last November. Since then, I find very difficult to achieve orgasm during love making. Is this normal or to be expected. Can anyone help?

Since this is the Chronic Pain forum...is it pain that's causing you problems? If not you may not find your answer here.

I had posted my endometriosis and adenomyosis problem in this forum before. This is the after effect which I think it might be OK. to post my question here.

Are you taking any medication post procedure? This could be a side effect from one (or more) of them. It could also be the result of lower estrogen levels since you are functioning with one ovary. Don't be afraid to ask your Gyn, you know darned well they have been asked this question millions of times before! If it is uncommon, then he/she could test your hormone levels.

I had a hysterectomy 20 years ago. Both of my ovaries were left. I went through menopause about 12 years ago. I never experienced any difficulty achieving orgasm after either event. In fact, I had a lot fewer problems after the hysterectomy....prior to the surgery I had a lot of pain from endometriosis and very prolonged and heavy periods.

I second asking your GYN to check out things. They are used to the questions. Your own doctor will be able to place your problem in perspective of your anatomy and post-op particulars/

Thanks Mochiah & Ides,

I was not on any medication after the op. I feel that without the uterus, there is no contraction and mentally, I can't feel the penetration. I really do not how to tell the gynae.

You tell your gyn doctor just like you told us.....believe me, they have heard all kinds of questions and this will not phase them one bit. As the saysing goes, this is what they are paid the big bucks for!

Edited to add:  If it makes you more comfortable, call the office and ask for the nurse, this way you don't have to ask the question face-to-face.  The nurse will either be able to answer your question or suggest you make an appointment...either way, your question will be conveyed to your doctor.
