Hi everybody,
I hope everyone is doing well.
I've got a question, I don't remember if I have asked this before or not but does anyone know if sugar or high carbohydrate foods can increase the effects of oxycontin? I remember reading that what you eat or drink (Not including Alcohol) shouldn't have an effect on the medication but the reason I ask is I am experiencing something very odd and unnerving to say the least.
If I take my pain meds on an empty stomach I can feel them kick in but not anything too dramatic as it has always been. Now if I eat something sweet or anything with high carbohydrates within a few minutes it seems to make the pain meds stronger. I'm unsure if this is what is happening or not but it sure feels like it. I become super drowsy, Sometimes there is nausea, headaches and dizziness as well. It is the strangest thing.
This has been going on for awhile now but it's been really bad for the past couple of weeks. So bad in fact that my short term memory is the worst it has ever been. I do something an five minutes later I forget what it was I was doing. I also have been dealing with trouble concentrating and thinking. My vision is also going blurry (I just had them examined and all was normal) as well and all I want to do is sleep. Then another strange symptom I've been having is breaking out into hot, cold sweats and abdominal pain after I eat something.
Now I know that these symptoms also happen with diabetes but I do not have any of the major symptoms of diabetes. IE; Excessive thirst, frequent urination but then again not everyone with diabetes develops those symptoms. My diet could be better but I do exercise. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be helping with these strange symptoms.
Does anyone have an ideas or experienced something similar? I have had it with this darn pills and pain or not I can not continue to feel like this.
I am so close to telling the pain clinic no more pills. If I could come up with a taper plan myself I would do it. Then again it may not be the opioids but I suspect that they just might have something to do with all of this.
