Tom:
Keep in mind that this show comes out of Hollywood and their priority is drama before accuracy. That said, the show portrays a drug ADDICT. NOT a chronic pain patient. That is a crucial distinction and is at the very heart of the struggles many of us deal with on a daily basis when trying to get adequate treatment for our pain. I did see that show, and the lady you spoke of was supposedly downing something like 90 pills a day. I have no idea what that would do to one's internal systems, but bleeding ulcers don't seems out of the question.
What is important, and unfortunately what is completely skewed by shows like this, is that medications like oxycontin ARE safe when taken AS PRESCRIBED for treatment of REAL medical issues and under the constant care of a qualified medical doctor. Another message this show failed to send was that the overwhelming majority of CP patients who take these medications DO take them AS PRESCRIBED for treatment of REAL medical issues and under the constant care of a qualified medical doctor.

p.s. Tom - I just came back and read this a while after my initial post, and it struck me as sounding kind of angry, which I didn't intend. Please don't think I was annoyed with you, friend! It just frustrates me that shows like this sensationalize the few who abuse these medications and who have consequently caused more suffering for those of us who do not. I am irritated with that. Not you. Please forgive me if my post came off wrong.
