Going from Bad to Horrible in 2.5 seconds

Ok it has been a real bad day for the back and legs. But now it just went from bad to excruciating in 2.5 seconds!!!! I was rather enjoying my peaceful quiet day of trying to get my back to calm down as well as the shooting pains in my legs, when what do you know the phone rings. Its my Realtor and the following phone call begins to take place:

"Hi __________ your gonna hate me." Becky says.

"Uh, oh what's up?" I say.

"Well I have this couple that wants to see a house in Frannie and I know I am not giving you 24 hours notice, but I was wondering if it was alright if I brought them over to see yours as well." Becky says laughing.

"When?" I said now knowing it was going to get worse.

"Well they are going to go see the other house around 3, so I would say 3:30 or 4:00pm. Is this alright?"

As usual the sweetness in me came out and I agreed! God now stupid am I????? This was at noon......I scurry to do what little dishes hubby has left for me. Look around at the tremendous mess that he has made not only in my kitchen....but living room as well and think..."Screw it...they will just have to deal with the disaster that is my life." So I get the dishes done and vacuum the living room and swept the kitchen floor...looked at the bathroom (its fine) and decided that its good enough and if they cannot handle the fact that I am in pain and am trying to deal with the whole moving and stuff so if they cannot realize that people who have their houses up for sale and are still trying to move out are in the middle of a huge change then I don't need them scrutinizing my house as it is.

The entire house has been turned upside down and boxes are everywhere. Hubby is trying to finish painting the walls in the living room and I just cannot deal with a realtor that does not see that I am in pain and decides to give me 3 hours notice to show my home. Going to have a long talk with her (after all doesn't she work for me??????) about this and tell her from now on she MUST give me 24 hours notice of a prospective buyer! Otherwise I will fire her and get someone else to do the dang sale of the house.

Now since I did just that little bit...my left leg is screaming at me and so is my back. I can barely move without being in excruciating pain and this is all for what???? Anyway needed to vent...thanks hugssss

Your ticked off at realtor, in excruciating pain, needs her pain meds and muscle relaxers....friend

I went through the same thing a few years back. A friend of mine taught me a "trick". Take everything that's out -- dishes, clothes, whatever & throw it all in a big ole box. If you have a neighbor handy, s/he can put it away somewhere. If not, push it against a wall & throw a pretty tablecloth over it. It will help the home show nicer without all the effort. "Hubby" can take care of sorting it out when he gets home. ;)

LOL Frances...I never thought of that!!!! I just pushed boxes in the corner and tried to straighten up as best as I could. Thank god hubby mowed the lawn yesterday night. Called him to let him know that the Realtor was showing today and he said just clean what ya can and let it go. So I did! Not like they are serious about my house anyway, the Realtor said that they wanted to look specifically at a house in Frannie and that she was going to talk them into looking at mine. So if they want to complain about it I really don't care cause I am not really in the mood for this today and would rather have had 24 hours notice of an approaching visit. I think right now it is just that we signed a contract saying 24 hours notice but that she didn't follow through with that part of the deal. This will not happen again and rest assured that I will have a talk with her about giving me 24 hours notice.

Hoping for an offer today or tomorrow!!!

You can always cancel the showing. My mom's a realtor & she's done that before, sometimes even 15 minutes before the showing. If you don't think they're serious, maybe it's not worth the hassle. Just tell them you have a family emergency you need to attend to & ask if they couldn't re-schedule for another day.

Naw...I'll go through with the dang thing. Just irritated today because I am in so much pain ya know? My left leg is screaming at me and I'd rather just stop and take a break. I am headed to my hot tub for a bit to see if that helps and then a short nap too. :-) No big deal we'll get through this as usual :-)

I think you ought to be in the hot tub when the realtor comes and just wave to the people from there! I am serious!!

You didn't just do a little, you did some major active work with things like sweeping and running the vacuum. I think as long as the realtor knows your situation re: pain she needs to explain that to people coming to see the house. Put it on her to tell people you are ill and very limited in what you can do, so the house may not be in "showable" condition like others. To my mind if they like the house/area/ whatever they're looking for enough they will overlook that. And heavens how could someone be in the process of a move and not have boxes around?

It's not worth the price to your health, as I think you're finding out. So just pick up a bit like Frances suggests (think if you had a bunch of small kids and you might have to throw their toys and such into a box) maybe do the dishes, light a candle that smells yummy, and get in the hot tub!

Probably not a good idea to tell them you have CP. I've seen people use that to try to underbid. Your goal is to convince them you are happy, healthy & can wait for the right offer on your home -- even if you really can't.

Buyers can be like vultures, especially in this market, and they are looking for any reason to bring in a lower offer. They can think that since you're in pain you won't want to do more showings, so they bring you a low offer hoping you're desperate enough to take it. I've seen it happen too many times. It's much easier to later say to them that you'll consider any offer, then to set it up from the start that you're not in a position to hold out for top dollar. This is one time where it pays -- literally -- to pretend.

Please do take care of yourself -- maybe there's a neighbor with a whirlpool you can go visit for an hour -- but I really don't think it's such a good plan to clue in the buyers about your condition.

I would agree Frances that I wouldn't tell people the details of CP - even re: the meds issue. But because you have some health issues doesn't necessarily have to mean you're in a hurry to move. You can give the impression that you'll move whenver the right offer comes along.

Or maybe you could just say you're not such a great housekeeper! LOL I think that's what anyone showing my home woud have to adapt to!!

Hang out in the hot tub with a martini glass and a romance novel and wave as they walk by! At least they'll know the hot tub is in working order! LOL

LOL PA....I thought about doing that actually but couldn't take the pain so I went to the hot tub a few minutes ago and I feel so much better then I did when I finished the house. Its as good as its gonna get so I told the Realtor that its not the best but they are just going to have to overlook the boxes and things from packing and trying to paint the living room. Called hubby to tell him I got some of it done and he told me that what we will do from now on is keep up on it so that its a bit more manageable to handle.

The hardest part for me was to vacuum and hubby told me that he will get the vacuum out when he gets home and get it done every evening before we go to bed so that I don't have to do it. The other thing I told him is that sweeping the floor is quite hard for me to do so he is also going to take that up as well. It's hard enough on me to get around as hubby says, and doing the house in such a short time is impossible to expect from me.

I got a little snippy with the Realtor on the phone and I apologized for that but as I told her on the phone cleaning my house in 2 hours is impossible to expect from me and she said that it will not happen again that she was truly sorry and had forgotten that I had told her that I was in extreme pain and that most of the housework is done by my husband.

As far as the rest of the stuff goes they will just have to overlook the boxes and stuff in the house, as we are trying to get ready to move and most people are kind enough to actually look over that anyway. I just hate people poking around my house I feel like it is invasive and am not used to having visitors that only wish to see how I have kept the house over the 11 years that I have owned it. But this too shall pass and I feel much better after sitting in the hot tub and soaking for a bit :-)

Well.........

I think it went very well. I'm thinking that they might buy it or at least I am hoping. They seemed quite interested in the place and spoke with me about some things so it might go well or so I am praying :-)

Hopefully this will all have been worth something then. It stinks that you had to deal with this today, but it would be great if your house sold quickly for you. I hope you are feeling better after your soak in the hot tub!

Hey Scarred,

Give your realtor some slack, she just wants your house to sell! I was actually mad at mine b/c she refused a showing on 3 hours notice. If she had asked me I could have made it happen. I know your in pain and i know getting a house ready to show really really sucks. But, it is not going to sell if it doesn't get shown. And buyers are funny, some will only cruise a neighborhood once. Once they get in your house they can be hooked lol. I'm jealous you get to be home for showings. We have to take the dog and get out and go somewhere to give the potential buyer and buyer's realtor privacy. I wish I had a more pro active realtor.

Wanted to add - that I didn't mean to say that you should have to comply and show the house on short notice I just meant don't be mad at her for asking. You always have the right to say no. Who knows, maybe your hubby had just cleaned the house the night before and you were thrilled to show it. She has to ask to know. And no one is going to be mad at you for not cleaning, it just has a better chance of selling clean and staged. You want people to see the house and say ah, I can see myself living in here. But if you can't make the house look neutral then at least get them in to see it!

A few tips I've learned. When I have a short notice showing everything lying around that doesn't have a good home (like bulk store paper towels) gets tossed in my car. If you have dirty dishes, put them in a laundry basket in your car. People rarely look under beds and should not be looking in your dresser drawers (but will be looking in your closets and cabinets). So kick stuff under the bed. Private papers? Stick them between books on shelves. And bring your meds with you! People will be checking out your cabinent space and you don't want someone stealing your meds.

PA and Fitzy thank yu so much for that advice. I did apologize to her for getting upset with not allowing me the 24 hours and she understood that I am in pain and that my life is not exactly what I had expected it to be. When she came to view the house today she was so proud of me for keeping the dogs under control and helping her with certain things (telling the dimensions of the lot that were not included in the paperwork, turning the hot tub on to show the perspective buyers that it truly did work and was quite nice and other things). She told me after it was all over with that I did a wonderful job and then I apologized for my rude behavior over the phone. She told me that she understood that things were quite a mess for me right now and that her mother has arthritis and is in gobs of pain as well. So she understands my pain.

I know that she is only trying to get me the best price she can for the house and trying to sell it quickly so that we don't have to deal with that while trying to move. Hubby said he is going to help me keep the house clean so that when it does happen that she calls and wants to show it in a short time that I will be ready for it next time and I have told her that. I am thrilled that I am allowed to be at the house when she shows it and I think that it helped her today knowing that she could count on me to help her in a tough situation. Its not like I am trying to sell a gorgeous two story home that is in immaculate condition and has this landscaped yard that is to die for. I am selling my home of 11 years which is a 1979 single wide mobile home (hubby and I are the second owners!) with a hot tube room and hot tub that we care for quite a lot. It too comes with a yard that hubby and I have been trying hard to make beautiful and have put much time into.

I think that with my bad attitude came a horrible question that I was not ready for.....do I really want to move out of my very first home that I worked so hard to make as ours? And too with that came another question.....what the hell am I doing??? I have never been the one to sell a home and I think this is what fueled my desire to shroud it from the view of anyone wanting to buy it. But as the saying goes with life comes change and I realized that I was looking at this all wrong and that selling this house meant upgrading to something that I have truly wanted my entire life.....a permanent home that I can be proud of. After many many years of being the occupant of a trailer home since the age of 16 this is my first time at being able to really have a real home (don't get me wrong....this trailer has served its purpose and I am not knocking people that live in trailers). I was so upset with myself that I couldn't show my trailer in a more special way that I took it out on the one person that is trying her hardest to make this happen for us and I should not have. To this I feel guilty and am ashamed and I have since apologized for my out burst.

Fitzy as far as the meds they are locked in the gun safe....completely out of anyone but mine and hubby's knowledge of the combo so that was not the problem. I think what I was wanting was a piece of my old life back so that I could make my house appear to be livable. and I did that. Hubby came home and said no wonder you hurt baby....you should have never done this much. Anyway first prospective buyers are out of the way and I think it went very well. I have to begin to believe that I will get this sold and that over time (that is if these people do not buy the house) that I will get better at this challenge and that it will get easier over time.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. You are in the midst of a big life change right now. The idea of moving is a lot for anyone to deal with, but you have health concerns on top of that. It is completely understandable that you would be struggling with everything. From what I can tell, it sounds like you are handling things pretty well, all things considered. Give yourself a little slack, dear. This is bound to be difficult. There will probably be more moments ahead when you wonder if the right decision has been made. But when it comes right down to it, you know that what really counts is that you and your husband are there for each other and that you make your decisions as a team and support each other as much as possible, and it sounds like you are doing that.

Keep us up to date here, and we'll do our best to support you from a distance. You are certainly in my prayers right now. Take care of you! Get some rest tonight and soak a bit in the hot tub again.

Hi Scarry: Wanna borrow my Goat " fruit loops" and my geese , fred & ethel, ricky & lucy. There great if someone shows up unannounced just open their pen and their take care of Your uninvited guests. You have not lived till You seen a goat and geese chasin people down your drive way ! !

LOL Tom; I think that I would get in trouble with the town for having farm animals inside the town limits heheheh. But I thank you for your wonderful support hun.

Selling a house that you have lived in longer then you have ever been in one place since being a child is a tough thing to handle. I have been in this little town longer then I have been in for a very long time and this is the first house that I have actually owned, so with those two things comes the doubt. Yeah I agree that I was a little hard on myself last night Ry. Its hard to realize that the house that my son grew up in (happy and healthy) with both his father and I is hard to give up. In fact, he called yesterday and when I told him that the house was up for sale he seemed a little sad that we were selling it, but as I told him that this is a good thing and that his dad and I have to see this through. He agreed and told me well at least we will be a bit closer to him.

I sat thinking for a long time after I had posted my and I feel that I overreacted to the situation and should be pleased that she took the time to actually show the house. I also had time to think about this whole thing and realize that the stress of moving and everything has been dealt a huge tole on both of us. I have since relaxed and am thinking of this as a good thing.

I wanna thanks each of you for your kind words and to let you know that you all have been a huge support for me in this. I will keep you posted on how things go and we shall see what happens from here. I do know that hubby talked to his brother yesterday and we have the job locked in. They are going to be doing a conference call with the boss sometime this week and then it'll be up to us to get the house sold and get packed so that we can get this done.

Ok bright news reached my ears today!!!!! I called the realtor to see what the people thought of the house and guess what?????? It looks like they are going to make an offer!!!!!!!! Waiting to hear from the Realtor to see what we are about to expect and we will go from there as to what to do!!! YAY!

How exciting! Sure hope everything works out. That would be fantastic if you can get it together so quickly! You must have done a great job with the cleaning & presentation of your home!

Exactly PA. Gotta have that cherry on the top to complete the sundae! Have not heard from the Realtor yet, but this is a pretty big decision so I think they need a little more time to discuss it. Hoping to hear soon (possibly tomorrow) what their decision is. Was pretty cool when the Realtor said that they had looked at another place in Frannie and that mine beat it hands down. I do know that they want it and feel that this is a done deal, but I really do not want to count my chickens before they count, so to speak. They currently live in UT and are in the process of closing on their home out there, so their decision has to be soon as they will be without a home soon.

Anyway my Realtor thinks that this is a done deal and that they will come back with a good offer to buy the house. I think you are right Frances; I must have made a impact on them with how I cleaned and presented the house. So I am praying for the final decision to come soon and we can get this behind us as we move on to another place in our lives. I do know that my Realtor sent them a sheet as to the comparability of homes that have been sold in this area, so that they know that it is a good price and that their fears of paying too much is put to bed. Becky said that they were quite excited yesterday and that they were going to mull it over so I will hear soon as she does. She put in a call to them this afternoon and I guess they were out (probably shopping since the couple are from another state and don't get to Cody much) Their daughter lives in Cody and is very supportive of them living in my small little town, as she knows that the prices of homes in that city are way beyond the reaches of most that want to live there.

Well, I will let you all know when I hear! Your friend in excitement, elation, pain and nervousness.

Holy moly!!! Talk about a strange day. I just got a call from my Realtor telling me that another couple wishes to look at the house tomorrow! Wow real good times are being had LOL

Looks like it could possibly be PA, can you believe it!? I would have never thought that I would be in between a bidding war! This will be interesting to see what happens.
